"Angels One Five"?  Never heard of it.  Is that a movie or a tv show?

Siaf,

"Afford." As in "at present I cannot afford the significant grief a $50 charge on my credit card bill for a DVD series would earn me."

Our budget is currently so brittle that my wife has been making all the stuff for our 3 year olds "pirate birthday party" by hand and his presents are all going to be of the dollar store variety. Considering that most of this is the fall-out from having to pay both the $500 deductible on an accident that occurred while Daddy was driving and the monstrous costs of fixing Daddy's terrible English teeth, I'll be laying off buying things like oh... cigars, single malts and DVDs for quite some time. Blame a highly developed self preservation instinct.

WOW Storch!

Now that has to be one of the (if not the) kindest offers I have ever received via the internet and one which I will gladly accept. You have my most sincere and heartfelt thanks. Cigars are a rare pleasure for me, and one which also makes for great times of reflection, relaxation, and fellowship.

You can email me at:   MY EMAIL ADDRESS

Thanks again, your kind offer really did make my day... :aok

speaking of DVDs, anyone know why there is no The Fighting Lady DVD yet?  i'd love to have that footage in a format more conducive to slow-mo & freeze-frame than VHS is

Many of Dark Blue World's air-to-air scenes were taken from the extended Battle of Britain film (originally out takes).  That's why the new air-to-air footage had to have the same squadron codes to make it all fit in.  I have an article about it somewhere in one of my aircraft magazines, but they're back in the UK! :(

gofaster:

Angels One Five

PLOT DESCRIPTION

"Angels One Five" is the cognomen bestowed upon a group of WW II British fighter pilots. The squadron leader is Tiger Small (Jack Hawkins), who is taken out of commission after an accident. Despite the protests from his fellow flyboys, Tiger insists upon taking to the air again, thereby setting the stage for the film's exciting and inspirational finale. Angels One Five differs from other combat films in that the battles generally take place offscreen; the progress of the principal characters is relayed to the audience via radio reports and control-room charts. If this sounds dull and static, it isn't: in fact, Angels One Five is among the best of the "Battle of Britain" war epics. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

To Hell and Back
Midway
Battle of the Bulge
Saving Private Ryan
Band of Brothers
The Longest Day
The Big Red One

Tora Tora Tora and Das Boot are OK.

Pearl Harbor I liked about 20 mins of it.

I keep going back to Band of Brothers about every other month or so for some reason. I guess that would make it my favorite.
