Lazs, thought you were the "biker" that none of us were or understood. And it turns out your just one of those sunny day only Harley riders.

I'd rate some of my most fun adventures, rides, touring, racing  that I've ever done have been in the rain all seasons  day or night.

It's fun because you enjoy bikes  no matter what the weather. And just consider the elements part of what it's all about. While laughing at those that you only ever see when it's fine and how much their missing out.

Another point is when it comes to racing, if you practice in the wet when all the other ladies are still in bed. You'll become quicker 100 times faster then a dry road only rider. And after all your wet weather riding, riding in the dry feels like cheating and you can blitz anyone on anything as you know what balance, sliding, control is all about far more then the next guy.

Plus with all that experience and practice when it's wet or dry  you can take any bike and drift it through corners which is an incredible blast no matter what your on.

Gixer I tried to explain this to them already. They Don't understand. It isn't their fault. I Pity them. Whilst  I see the world, improve my skills, meet some great people ( my wife included) get the most from my bike, have an all round blast come rain shine or snow!  they are moping around waiting for the perfect sunny conditions to ride in at 55mph with a bug infested face but a very shiny tractor. I know which kind of biker I'd rather be.

( yeah I know you got a beemer Lazs but you spout the sunny sunday harley riding type crap )

sent it to ya nuttz..   Was pretty sure it had to be broke there even tho I never seen one do that.

Ok girls...  First off..  I live in California.. it rains like 10 or 15 days a year here.   When I rode Harleys I lived on the damn things but those days are over.  It was NEVER fun to ride in the rain.   It was never fun to camp out under the bike with the rain coming down or have semi's (big trucks for you island folk) throwing tidal waves of water at you.

Now.. I don't even ride a Harley... My son gave me an old 750 BMW that is fun to take out on nice days.... Just like my Healey.

I have the Healey and the bike for nice days.  they are fun toys.   I have a big block el camino 6 speed for days and nights that are freezing bellybutton cold or raining and it is a lot of fun to drive too.

And... why the hell would I go to sturgis anyway?

point is.. I don't live on some tiny little rain forest of an island and I don't race bikes.   I don't want to ruin the experiance of sunny and good day riding by having a two wheeled winnebago and spending 20 minutes dressing up just to ride.

To do so is taking away from the freedom that is topless roadsters and motorcycles.   If you aren't good enough or can't afford to race cars then you probly will have to suffer a little I guess.   When I dragrace or autocross it is very comfortable and not that much hassle.

I look out at my small collection of vehicles and pick the one that I am gonna enjoy the most for the trip I am taking.

If riding in the rain is so enjoyable then why aren't you doing it in your street clothes on a bike that looks like a motorcycle?

Your a Lost cause mate! ;)

A Semi Retired Biker I guess.

Your very lucky to have such a selection of vehicles. My salary won't run to owning a motor museum;) A house and touring, and all the other things I enjoy in life. I guess you pays your money and takes your choice. No problem with that. Just a problem with you telling us that your way is right and mine and, Gixer for example, are wrong or that somehow what we do doesn't make us Bikers. ( sorry that was Jackal wasn't it ) Anyhow I think you are missing something and no doubt you think the same of us.

Ce La Vie ( spelling aint my forte ) as they say in that other fine place to ride, France.

P.S as for riding in Street clothes that would be pretty dumb wouldn't it? Bet even when you rode your Harleys you wore leather jacket gloves and boots at the minimum. Come to think of it thats what I ride in, look at the pics, Just add the Lid as my head is precious and I only got one!

skyprancer... if you read the thread it is you and gixer who are the ones saying that the only true bikers do it your way.

My point was that a bike should be enjoyed... just like any vehicle otherewise we all might as well drive prius's

My opinion is that I can find hundreds of enjoyable days to ride if I want that I can wear the clothes I wear for anything else... I don't have to get all costumed out...  I want a bike that allows me to see and here and feel the wind... I want no helmet smell... I want to smell what is going on around me.

Last weekend I drove the Healey and rode the bike and enjoyed both.

I would rather enjoy the time I spent rather than just rack up time no matter what.

In America it is not at all uncommon for people to have a house and a car and a hot rod and a bike with maybe a boat or ski doo thingie thrown in... maybe a race car and trailer too.

Oh and guns... we have guns.... lots and lots of guns.  I am gonna get those removable saddlebags to carry my guns in when I go shooting and feel like taking the bike.

It's about quality of life not quantity of doing.

I allready been where you are..  you haven't got to where I am yet.

experiance is even better.   experiance on both sides is best.   I have been where you are with the elitism of "true bikers ride no matter how misserable they are"

I posted picks of me on a bike after my leg had been sewn back on.   I had to extend the right front peg and strap the crutches across the handlebars.   The vibration would break the cast and probly caused the leg to take longer to heal... it would bleed through the cast... turned a brownish color.

Oh... and you had to kick start that old 74.  I learned to kick left legged.

could I say that unless you have done that then you are just a "fair weather" rider?

LOL I pity you that you don't have a car to drive in inclement weather. And nobody "mopes around, waiting for sunny days" where we live- the sun will be out every day between now and the end of September, so boating, bicycling and motorcycles can all be enjoyed without rain every day for the next 3=4 months.

yeah... it's a real hardship to have to drive a big block 6 speed el camino with hotchkiss susspension around when the weather gets bad for a couple of months...

even then... the weather breaks for a few hours even when it is at its worst.

I will tell you a secret.. guys in cars seeing you riding in the rain and snow aren't envious.   In fact... a lot of em who were thnking of getting a bike say to themselves...  "maybe that wasn't one of my better ideas."
