Great looking car.  Interior is a little cheap.  300 hp...pretty good deal but waiting for the 450hp Shelby GT500 Mustang due out beginning of '06.

Have a '03 V-6 Mustang here.  Almost 40k miles on it and no problems at all.  Has pretty good pep for a V-6 and it gets decent mileage on the highway.

The old Mustang was the best quality vehicle built in NA..I would guess the new stang would be close in quality but always probs with big three on new model launches.

Me too.  Though sounds like it might be late 2006 before they hit the showroom.

Time to return to my Mustang roots.  (first car I owned was a 70 Mach I w/ 428CJ)

She test drove one today.All the dealers have $3000 mark up ON TOP of MSRP, so far I've been able to negotiate that off, but none are moving below MSRP:mad: I wish she would get these inclinations to buy a new car when it was winter, convertibles are MUCH cheaper in the winter.

Drove an 04' GT, and had a pretty good time in it.  Seems kinda poochy, but faster then a lot of cars.

I was at the dealship last sunday:D

I was looking at the V8, with the upgraded interior/leather seats. The MSRP is almost 28K. You can get the GT deluxe (clothe seats/stereo), or the Premium (leather/upgraded stereo).

The finishing is very good. The interior looks modern enought, yet it's not " without character". I personaly like the brushed alluminum accents on the upper dash and steering wheel spokes.

As a driver I could feel at the right place, the shifter is not our of reach, the pedals are "right there". The steering wheel is a biggy for me. I like it low, yet I don't like when u cannot see the guages. In the Gt, it's ok, a bit high but not bad.

Room legs for the rear seats is poor, but then again, if u buy a tantan you are probably not looking for a familly car.

Perf wise, the new stang is coming with very good suspensions, and very good brakes, according to the couple of car magazines I read.

The dealership make you possible to order a ROUSH mustang, or the STEEDA Q thru them. The Roush comes with 3 levels of customization, it's mostly a boby kit, the level 1 adds the 18" rims, the level 1 adds a suspension upgrade. The kit looks nice but far from being worth the extra $7K.
STEEDA (Steeda.com), I don't know what their package include nor their tag price, I'm still waiting for their brochure.

The great thing about the mustang is all the after market parts already available Why wait for a Shelby GT500 and probably pay $40K+, when you can just bolt on a Vortex blower for $6K on a stock GT and have 400 RWHP.

grab a Mustang magazine like 5.0 and see all the bobykits/engine upgrads/ susp upgrades available, even for the 2005, makes you all dreamy.

It's hard to compare the Mustang with others as it's the only one around. I looked at the GTO, it's ok, 400HP ,and an egg shape does not justify $33K for a base model. The Charger is cool, but it's a big car, I would compare it to a 300C/300 SRT more than a mustang.

I'll probably get the mustang, despite the fact that I always looked down on 80s/90s Mustangs. I think the GT offers you a great base for possible UFO upgrades, for a cheap price.

Why don't you go to Hertz and rent one for the week end, a lil road trip 2 days test drive would make sense, I'm renting one go to Vegas next weekend.

Nice write up Frenchy.  4 dealers later, momma has a new car. She got to decide on the the things she wanted. I had no say so in the decision. She ended up going with a V6, (210 hp, 240 lbs. torque) upgraded interior and exterior, anti-lock and traction control, yada yada.  I wish she'd waited til winter, I could have got alot better deal.  Oh well, this opens up the doorway for a Shelby GT500 in my future, I'll wait til 2007 though.

Now, I'm not big on Ford to start with but I had one on my vacation, a coupe base V6 so I'll give an overview.

Exterior: Great looks I love the retro look!

Interior: smurfy!! Sorry, I couldn't resist. You like it or you hate it. It looks like the dash where the radio goes was a big after thought..very plane and FORD looking. Seats were nice and firm, forget putting an adult in the back seat. A child for maybe 30 mins or so other then that it sucks.

Motor/Tranny: The V6 doesn't have the power to get out of it's own way. The transmission 5 speed auto, I think it's the same one from the Exploder SportTrac as it seems to shif about the same dumb numbness. It wanted to hunt for the gear, and passing gear it took a while for it to find it.

Ride: It corners well as expected and too bad for a very heavy car @ 4000lbs! No wonder the poor V6 can not get out of it's own way!


My 2 cents.. I got good gas mileage about 25mpg..the ride was nice and got lots of looks. Would I own one.. not unless it was a V8 and I got it for a really...really good price.

Rip, my dealer bud around here is scouring the US for convertible GT's. He gets $1500 to $3000 over list for them and has been cheerfully paying list to get one with less than 500 miles on it from anyone.

The non-GT converts are going pretty near list if he doesn't get list.

Just saying don't feel like the lone ranger on paying the price.

Me... I'd have waited till winter.

Thanks, I'm hearing this from quite a few Stang owners.  My pragmatic side said wait til winter, but wife has a job too, and she gets what she wants (after all, she has to put up with me!)

heh, I was looking at one "domestic" yesterday, (I believe it was the Ford 500) it stated on the sticker that the engine was made in Germany, the tranny was made in France, and the car was assembled in Tennesee.
