Disabling skin downloads
« on: July 15, 2005, 02:16:21 AM »
Can we have an option to disable skin downloads?  Also when HT releases the batches of skins, can it also be made available via the download page?  Reason I'm asking is that every time a skin is download while I'm online and flying, I micro warp.  It's annoying for me and I'm sure also annoying for the guy I'm trying to shoot down.

Personally Id rather just  wait the extra time and DL all the skins while the game is loading before heading to the MA as opposed to getting them while Im playing the game. Orrr get them the same way we do with an updated version of the game.

If for some reason you had to reinstall AH,  It does not have all the skins in it,  and Unless you download the skins all at once   the skins will download while your in game play, here and there.

They tell you this, if you go to the download site to get the game.
of course we that have been here a few probably dont go to that site much, if at all, to read it.  hehe

preload only loads the skins you have on your pc if you dont have them all,  its not loading all them.    You have to DL the skins from download web site,  then only the very newest ones that are turned in will come to you.   Ive had to reinstall few time here lately, and I tell you now theres alot of skins

but being on dialup i choose at this time to get them here and there and deal with the shutter <-- if and when it shutters.

If  your here at the bb you had to pass the dl link , ..  go back young man go back,  you will find what your searching for,, grasshopper.....

I don't think you understand what I'm asking for Tactic.

If you look at the download page, the last skin pack they have was from 5/25/05.  It doesn't contain the latest skins and instead we're forced to download them while we are playing.  This causes some of us to experience periodic lag and warping, regardless of our connection.  These lags and mini-warps is not a client side connection issue but directly related to the download of these skins.

I'm asking that we be given a feature to disable the downloads while we're in game and for HT to make the new skins available on the download site for us to download and install manually if we choose so.  If you want to receive the skins individually while you fly, you'll still be able to.

OR

when you log in the server checks what skins you currently have and if there's newer ones than when you were last logged on it simplly updates them before you get "in game"

Just a thought

The other night I was flying and getting massive warpage, lockups my also my Tempy and a G2 did their impression of a hyabusa and turboed across a sector in about 3 seconds.

My vairience was off the scale

In the few seconds after this I would see skin blah blah blah has arrived.

I have some screen dumps and keep meaning to send them to HTC (They are at home so I cant do it now).

I whish I could disable the skin downloads, but I don't want to have to wait for them when I logon unless there is an option to get them later (I am on dialup and it bites)

This happened today in the SEA during an FSO at least stop the skin from downloading in the SEA as last week i crashed cause of a lock up

Dailup here as well and when the skins are downloading lots of warps and lag. :(

Lots of firing and no hits :(

Pull the trigger and cons miniwarp just out of the way.

ETC. ETC. ETC.

My connect is not very good anyway but when skins are downloading can be really bad.

I too would prefer the OPTION of disabling skin downloads during my sim time and the ability to just go get the skins, in perhaps a zip file, from the HTC site when I'm ready.

Yeah man that's what I thought but the skins file is 184.47 MB, that's three times the size of the game....

Don't get me wrong I want the skins just not at the sacrifice of game play.....

Have a download button option in the tower for skins.  Either that or only make them download while in the tower.  That way you could walk away for a minute or two while in the tower and the skins would download.  It's a pain when in flight and I sometimes notice the little hiccups as the skin comes down, usually right when I'm in the middle of some tight fighting.

While not a direct solution and I don't know how practicle it is for you. Someone told me (and I have tried) going to TA or DA clicking the afk button, walking away and allow them to d/l there while I'm off doing other things. While not the sulution you're looking for, it works great if you have the time/ability to do so.

SuperDud is right,As soon as i see Skuzzy 's Light Blue type i land and log out ,log into the TA and for some reasons the skins download in under 5 minutes.

Or you could all get DSL,i didn't see any DSL customers in this thread complaining?Hmmmmmmm

I would love to get DSL but it's not avialble at my location.

Go maybe 1/4 mile north and you can get it. :(

No cable here either :(
