This thread pretty much demonstrates why the O'Club should go away.  The community, at large, will kill it, and it appears to making a conscious effort to do so.  It has been up to the community to clean it up, not the moderators, and it appears the choice has been made.

Too many people who have no clue when to back away from the keyboard (i.e. if you are not contributing the discussion, then why are you here?  And if your idea of contributing to a discussion is to denegrate others, then you have no idea how to have a discussion).

Of course, it is easier to blame the moderators than to consciously accept there are rules for posting.  The community demanded the rules.  We capitulated.  There is no choice as to whether they will be accepted or not.  The rules stand and if you have a problem with them, it is your problem, not ours.  And if you try to make it our problem, you will lose.

Choose to violate them, and you will be moderated.  Make a habit of it and you will be gone.  No amount of self-righteous indignation will change that.

In the end, however, none of that matters.  Rules only work when the community accepts there are rules and abides by them, instead of complaining about them and looking for ways to circumvent them or just out and out ignoring them.

Something is amis with the e-mail verification at the fdb forums. Shoot me an e-mail after you register and I'll get you in.

It's easy to blame the moderators skuzzy. To a point, it's a valid belief. You're trying to change the behavior here. That means you're doing something and people are going to view those actions as good or bad. There isn't much you can do about that except stay consistant.

Stay the course Skuzzy. Those that can't follow rules will end up at FDB forums. Those that can play nicely will remain members here. Perfect!

Consistency is in the eye of the beholder and is never really an issue (even though some try to make it an issue).  You get caught, you get caught.  Move along.

And we are not trying to change anyone's behavior.  We ask everyone to adhere to the rules.  It is thier choice.  Everyone here has the choice to consciously adhere to the rules or not to.

btw, I believe I've fixed the e-mail verification over at the FDB BBS. If you already have an e-mail verification that isn't working, try removing the "index.php" from the address.

Has anyone wondered that this might be the fate of the game itself?

Skuzzy, Perhaps the ban stick should be layed about a bit more heavily. Most of the offenders are rather consistant about it.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

what is a bummer, is some of us really enjoy the o'club, and obey the rules. it is really frustrating to see a thread "see rule XXX" every other post. i can see where ti is taking too many resources from HTC, i just wish it didn't :(

While I do point out the negative aspects of what has been happening in the O'Club, there have been some good things as well.

Old names who had abandoned the O'Club are coming back.  There are more people on the boards now than there used to be.

Many controversial topics have been held in check by the community and the discussions have been pretty good.  But then we have people who seem to be here for no other reason than to make negative or derogatory remarks.
There well always be that contingency to deal with on a forum and we would be silly/ignorant to think otherwise.  We cannot constantly be here to watch for those types of posters, so it is ultimately left up to the community to watch for it and deal with it.

How those negative people are handled by the community is the telling tale.  If they are ignored, the board will be a better place.  Those who respond to those posts cause as much trouble as the ones who make the original post.  Sort of like pouring gasoline on a match until the inferno consumes the rest of the forest.

It really boils down to making choices.  Make good ones folks.

If you didn't send a confirmation e-mail then something is up with your e-mail addy or server (sometimes vbulletin gets blocked). Send me an e-mail ( david.staines@intel.com ) and I'll hook you up. The confirmation seems to be working for others right now.

Skuzzy.. you are changing behavior. Someone didn't like what was going on in the O'Club and decided to change things even if it meant simply enforcing rules. You're changing behavior.

I'm not saying that's good or bad... it's your board to moderate. But this isn't some kind of innocent request or subtle change. It is a major change... for better or worse. Eventually people will come to terms with it.
