This thread pretty much demonstrates why the O'Club should go away. The community, at large, will kill it, and it appears to making a conscious effort to do so. It has been up to the community to clean it up, not the moderators, and it appears the choice has been made.
Too many people who have no clue when to back away from the keyboard (i.e. if you are not contributing the discussion, then why are you here? And if your idea of contributing to a discussion is to denegrate others, then you have no idea how to have a discussion).
Of course, it is easier to blame the moderators than to consciously accept there are rules for posting. The community demanded the rules. We capitulated. There is no choice as to whether they will be accepted or not. The rules stand and if you have a problem with them, it is your problem, not ours. And if you try to make it our problem, you will lose.
Choose to violate them, and you will be moderated. Make a habit of it and you will be gone. No amount of self-righteous indignation will change that.
In the end, however, none of that matters. Rules only work when the community accepts there are rules and abides by them, instead of complaining about them and looking for ways to circumvent them or just out and out ignoring them.
