IIRC this hurrican changed course at several times.

I think we would have saw what we are seeing today yesturday if thugs hadn't been shooting at helicopters and such.

Compared to the level of devastation, a mere $10 Million per year seems criminal.

But Oboe got me wondering... is it really the federal government's fault for not properly defending a city that shouldn't have been built there in the first place?

When we talk about state's rights and responsibilties versus federal rights and responsibilities, how do we look at New Orleans?

When it comes to Race, if there were a bunch Connecticutians holed up in a god forsaken football dome whiping feces on the walls it would have been a done deal three days ago.

Boom! Airlift/airdrop done.

Funding to the levy was halted for the first time in many years - everything was halted and slashed - and the people of New Orleans were fed to the dogs.

yes they knew it was going to happen and the LOCAL govt even had drills for it recently. The LOCAL govts have failed miserable.

Airdrop, airlifts....to where? where are you going to drop stuff, in the water? how are you going to air lift people out? how many sea planes do we have in the states?

Have you EVER been to NO? I have, there's not too many roads leading there. most of them go over water. For those that weren't sunk or destroyed there is only so much you can move over them. Before that you have to prioritize.

If the crime and shootings hadn't been goin on yesturday we'd have seen a whole lot more of what's goin on today.

dont shoot at the helicopters. four days is a long time but I dont think its racism. Its just poor leadership, no planning for disaster. At least the aid is there now.

Opening up the racism can could let less a whole lot of worms, like classifying the rioters and looters, then compare the Asian tsunami rioting and looting with New Orleans. Then compare the relative poverty and education levels. Makes you scratch your head a bit.

Nash keep going mate. You will get told repeatedly you area fool by people with a political agenda, probably, or you will get moderated thats a given. But I for one think you make some valid points.

Trouble is all the cries to keep politics out of the discussion are just a bit political realy since they are aimed at protecting the current govt ie the republican party and Mr Bush from taking any responsibility for the shambolic response!

Its not political to say the govt has made a mess of things. Thats seems to be a done deal it would seem. Wouldn't matter which party or leader was in power realy.

Frankly it wouldn't matter who is in power. If they responded as slowly and shambolicaly they ought to be held to account whoever they are. National or local Govt.

As a father or two, my heart broke watching those images with parents carrying limp, dehydrated small children.

They could have filled a clusterbomb with Trump Ice strapped in small parachutes and drop a few of those in the convention area. They could have strapped a rubber dingy under the supply container to make it float on water.

As of yesterday evening, !@!#$ SNIPERS were holding a group of 100 firefighters and their families in a building, and a swat team/ Nat. Guard was being diverted from their other duties to rescue these people, some of whom were apparently already wounded. Aid workers can't be sent in without police escort--it has reached the point where volunteer doctors, etc are leaving--they are trying to HELP these $$holes, and get nothing but complaints and death threats in return. In my opinnion, this conflict now brings into general knowledge what we as outsiders have been pointing out a long time.

Egocentrism and gaping differences in lifestyles within the country. Those who had it good had it so good that they closed their eyes from the misfortunate.

Judging from many of the articles, this is a wakeup call for many.
