Just a few thoughts from a GVers Point of view.
I read one post here that stated to not take out FHs, but rather VHs. Let me see. Which can kill an M-3 or Goon quicker. An M-8 traveling at 60 mph? Or an La-7 traveling at 300 to 400 mph? Hummmm. Tough one. Cap the field you say? Wish I had a dime forever time the cap was lost and fighters swarmed out. If troops are reported close to the city, I am upping a fighter just as anyone else would. Taking out FHs etc. for no reason falls into the same category as Porking Troops/Supplies and Ords 2 sectors back by only one fighter. Or sending 5 F4Us or 5 P-47Ns out to pork an entire country. Sound familiar? Saw it two nights ago.
Dive bombing Buffs. I have been out in a Panzer and had a set of Lancs make repeated passes dropping 4 to 5 bombs per pass to kill my Panzer. On the 5th drop he finally took me out. Fair? Yes. How the Buffs were intended to be used? I think not. And to the Buff pilot that has to use 42,000 lbs. of bombs to kill a Panzer? You da Man.
999000 if you have never seen Buffs dive-bombing or doing an NOE drop, hang out at a GV base any night of the week. You will see plenty of it. I have seen buffs drop from so low that they kill themselves, and also seen them drop from lower than that with no damage at all. Go figure.
As I recall, not sure from where, bombs have to travel 1000 ft before arming. I foolishly thought that meant from an altitude of 1000 feet or greater above ground, not along it. Skip bombing was done but these bombs don't skip. And it was done VERY rarely.
I doubt anything will be done to correct this. It is just like one winged Typhys dropping bombs. Until HT makes a hard deck for buffs dropping ords, nothing will change.
Each side has its players that will use any advantage to kill without being killed. That is what the Dive Bombing buffs do. It is the best chance to kill without skill and not be killed. Got 3 buffs. If I drop 42,000 lbs. of bombs on this GV, I will get a kill and come home safe. He might get one or two buffs, but I will get him and land the kill. Same thing holds true for killing a building. Some buff pilots can't hit the ground from above 1000 feet with a bomb, let alone a VH. But at 300 feet and dropping a full load from 500 yards behind the VH to 500 yards beyond, they are bound to kill something.
It won't change unless HT makes it happen. I just don't see it. On the priority list, it doesn't even make the first 100 pages.
On the bright side, they sure are a lot easier to shot down.
