The End Times...

Okay...

Some horrific catastrophe.... and the world goes lights out. Goodnight John, goodnight Suzie.

I don't really give it much thought.... although there was this one day about a year ago when I walked by one of those newspaper boxes, misread a headline, and it was like "OMG that's it. It's all over."

So.... but...  what?... Maybe it's robots gettin' wise, demanding higher pay and shorter hours, and ultimately sayin' ta hell with tha man and deciding to mow everyone down with laser beams.

Or the environment becomes the earth-sized equivalent of some pimply faced teenager's bedroom.... and Mother Nature decides to discipline us with like, the ultimate rolling pin of you're-so-grounded and ps. here's like, a huge flood.

Or a butterfly flaps its wings in Tokyo, someone gets distracted -  drops a coupla yen - and by the time the stock markets re-open on the East coast everyone's suddenly without electricity and you're no longer on speakin' terms with your ATM.

Or the sun is coming up, you're on your daily commute to work, feeling the good vibes coming from your Eric Clapton CD as you pull into the Shell, roll down your window and hear: "Hi Mr. Johnson. About the gas? It's too bad, but we do have a two for one deal on cigarettes if you act now.

(I thought better of writing some Bush/button graf. See? I'm not a monster).

Do you ever think about the end times? Do you think there is really even going to be an end times? If so, do you think it will happen in your lifetime? Or if after that - how far ahead?

And if you do.... do you attribute it to the secular misdeeds of mankind, or a religious foretelling?

Ya know... we've been foretelling the end of the world for as long as we've had a means to communicate.

Hell... the New Testament hit the street some 75 years after JC did his thing on the post and that little tale foretells the end of everything.

Every religion has a creation myth and a destruction myth.

Do I think it's coming anytime soon? I doubt it. I think life is going to get increasingly difficult for our ancestors. I think overcrowding and starvation will be the kicker. If we're lucky, we'll get hit by Dottie before any of that takes place.

And no, I won't attribute the end of the human race to "intelligent design". ;)

Oh... and one last thing...

I've spent more time thinking about my own end than I have the end of the world.

I sometimes wonder what it'll be like. My fear of dying is centered around my family. I have an obligation to them. Other than that, I'm curious. I've suffered a couple of concussions and getting knocked out is rather strange. It's a completely different experience than dreaming. I wonder if death will be like that.

Oh sure... I can hope that I'll become some fantastic creature of pure energy, but I highly doubt it. I think it'll be lights out, party's over.

... but I hope it's more exciting than that.

I don't think you'll be doing much living or thinking once you're dead, end time or flowerpot.
Live it like you stole it.

Maybe I'm ignorant, but I believe that deep down every human has a primitave, basic understanding that death is probably not the end of us.

I don't know, maybe some people are not curious enough to think about the universe, life and death....but myself, I think those are very interesting things to think about.

I'm not materialistic at all. I believe that being happy and doing what one feels is  right is the proper approach to life. I feel there is something more to existance than just our lives here on earth.

I'm no saint by any means though.

If the human kind ceases to exist, it will be the end of our perceivable world. Even if that happens, the world is still there and so are we, in a slightly translated form.

You mean what will happen if things get tougher?

probly the loafer wearing taxi riders will have more to worry about than being everyones nanny...  People will have to mind their own business.

as for personal ends... why is it that all the socialists are so worried about their own little lives and are positive that dieing will be not only the end of everything for them but some huge loss to those around them?

About the only time I think about "end time" is when I'm flying...then I begin feeling sorry for the cute women that are sitting near me because I know that if it is inevitable that the plane is gonna crash, that they're going to get groped something fierce by me. :D

miss me or not... it is for you to decide not me.  If we stay alive in peoples thoughts after we die then we have done something for them... that's fine but no big deal.

you can't let the death of a person ruin your life... Only a very selfish or arrogant person would think that is desirable.

In sandies case... he probly has plenty of insurance... his family will be as well off or better off... they will probly have new opportunities opened up to them by his death.   There will be change.... some probly very good.

why sweat it?

Do they even sell loafers anymore? I said "end times," not "olden times."

The end of times (for us at least) is only one appropriately sized iron meteorite away. Maybe tomorrow maybe in millions of years -- but it will arrive.

The irony is that we could potentially save the species without even making a huge GDP investment, but we're not making that investment.
