Fleet Changes
« on: December 12, 2005, 09:08:14 AM »
Did a search and found a reference to turning, but I think the rest are new.

1. Elevate the 5" guns on the CA to shoot over the main batteries at low targets.

2. Change the air raid siren to naval 'general quarters' alarm.  here

3. Add a turn warning siren that can be heard in tower, deck, and hangar.  Primarily useful when in the hangar deciding what craft to use. I have the sound running through my head, but I can't find it, nor figure out how to describe it.  I could record a vocal rendition of it.. but I don't want to risk vioating one of the posting rules.. particularily about abusive behavior..

4. When all DDs, CA, and CV are destroyed, disable troops at the fleet.

Love Idea No. 2 - wish they would add this or give you the ability to add your own sound like the "Check 6" calls.

No. 3 - I think you are talking about the ships Siren or Collision Alarm. You hear it on some war movies when you see Destroyers manuvering. It is a very high pitched "WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP" sound. Wish I had one on my truck. :D

Brilliant ideas!
Instead of 'Base under attack' how about 'Out the way sailor! MOVE IT!'
Here we are, living on top of a molten ball of rock, spinning around at a 1,000mph, orbiting a nuclear fireball and whizzing through space at half-a-million miles per hour. Most of us believe in super-beings which for some reason need to be praised for setting this up. This, apparently, is normal.

Seconded on the turn warning.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

#4 makes no sense. When CV is gone, you have 1 CA (battleship) and 4 DDs. When all are gone the entire fleet is gone. No fleet, no troops. If I recall once CV is dead you only get 30 mins or so before the rest of the fleet resets to follow it. Thus no need to limit troops if the rest of the fleet dies off too.

So #4 would be pointless.

This issue is actually a different request, and isn't limited to fleets.

We should get the ability to change the "Base under Attack" and Air Raid Sirens Per each type of Base. I have a killer audio file I would like to use for Vehivle Bases, and of course the Klaxon and General quarters kick butt too.

Rather than put the presure on HTC *which* sound to use we aught to ask for the ability to choose our own sounds and place them in a folder titled "alerts" or even in the default "sounds" directory.

Now *THAT* would be killer.

Dan.

Um.. Up until a week or so ago, which was the last time I actively participated in a sunk fleet,  the entry points of the fleet still exist as a  'ghost' and could maneuvered as such.  This was until the point in time when the fleet regenerated back at its port.

So, while there still were no capital ships present, PT boats and LVTs could spawn up until, I think, 15 minutes past the time the CV was sunk.

The point of the request is that every other base on the map can have it's troops disabled instantly.  ( insert whine about how weak the barracks are at bases here )  but with a fleet, you can drop hundreds of thousands of tons of ordnance on all ships.. virtually split them into their molecular components, but LVTs can still spawn with troops until the CV regenerates.

One could make the argument that since the CV is, technically, a self-contained airbase with no real need ( aside from defense ) of the rest of the fleet, that the barracks should be tied to the CV and be destroyed when the CV is.  I don't favor this idea because it should still be possible for a GV assault to take place after the air support is lost.  But, I just don't think that troops should be available when there simply are no vessels present that could be transporting them.

Oh.. and the code for a battleship is BB.  We have CAs ( Cruisers ).  Not sure why they are called that ( Battery size, I think.. 8"  vs. 12"+  ) but that's for other arguments in other categories.

The type of Cruiser we have is a BALTIMORE CLASS (CA) Heavy Cruiser with 9 x 8 inch guns for a main battery.

USN Classification Codes for Cruisers:

CC - Battlecruisers: (16 inch Main Battery, never completed, Lexington & Saratoga converted to CV's, other 4 scrapped)
CB - Large Cruisers:(larger than 8" guns)(Alaska Class, 12 inch guns)
CA - Heavy Cruisers:  (8 inch guns)
CL - Light Cruisers:  (6 inch guns and below)
CLAA - Anti-Aircraft Cruiser:  (5 inch Guns)

BB Stands for Battle Barge, and Wasn't called a BS for obvious reasons. :)
