I always loved all things aviation, and especially the 'Golden Age' of propellers, i.e....WW2. Also, always preferred good simulators to arcade stuff.
This game, warts and all, is the single best dollar-for-hour entertainment value you can find anywhere. The best PC games cost what, 50 bucks?, and a good one gives you 20-30 hours of gameplay. AH gives you endless hours for a flat rate. Excellent.
I also play so's I can pretend that any day now, my true talent will appear, and I will know myself for one of the greatest combat pilots who ever lived. Really...I'm sure I am. My current state of suckage is all a ploy while my latent skill develops. I'm a monster in a buff, and you're dead in tanktown if I'm near...but a fighter makes me look really bad.
Seriously....great value, a vendor dedicated to improving the product and the experience, a fully engaged player community, dynamic gameplay and (usually) great comraderie.
As for the commentary offered to tater....I really don't see how you can 'disrespect' a WW2 pilot in this game. I know two myself, and they simply don't see what we're talking about. When we take their squad names, they expect us to behave with dignity. Dignity has nothing to do with altitude. When tater or 999 fly lancastukas at 1000 ft, it may be annoying (at least when messing with tanktown) and out of place, but disrespectful? Puh-lease...gimme a break. That's a real stretch. Besides, as far as I can tell these guys are pretty OK, and don't mean any harm.
Let 'em call you toolshedder...when did furballers win the moral high-ground anyway? Laser 50's...what, did we write the code? Did we tell the schmoe to attack dead-six? The Big 'C' ?...totally off the hook without screenies/films/proof.
Play your game, play it with respect for the other guy's game and move along.
Once again...(/reverb on) I have spoken (/reverb off).
