Raising fuzz and filtering bad words is about as petty as it gets in my opinnion. We see a lot of prime time shows from US here in finland. And the censorship constantly raises smiles down here. Sometimes the programs contain more 1khz sine wave than recognizable speech.

Surely nothing bad will happen if we filter away the bad parts. Surely. Even if any over 5 year old understands which cuss words are bleeped out and which body parts contain nipples in US bowl shows.
:D

That being said I believe there are players in MA which would hinder the gaming experience of the rest unless they were filtered. In my opinnion a permanent option to squelch players would be far more beneficial than any automatic language filter which can and is constantly subvented.

You guys constantly rave about freedom. Why don't you want freedom to choose what you receive online?

I have been Muted for not cussing, or being abusive.  Some of the "moderators" in the Game have favorites and will "probably warn them to death".   I enjoy being muted, and roll film of others just continuing on for 4-5 minutes spewing the same garbage before the mute came on.

In my 3+ years of playing AH, I have been muted maybe 5 times.   I know who 2 of the AH moderators are in game and keep that to myself.   They do have a petty job (they know it, we know it) but I think consistency is the problem.   But for the most part they do a good job in keeping the temperance down on 200.

Just like some believe I actually get "riled up on 200".  LMAO, if only they knew the role in which they play, don't believe me, ask my squaddies.  I get pissed at hitting a tree in a good dogfight, not the incessant spewing of the rhetoric on the "Channel 200 Epic:  When Egos Flare!"

While I think cursing is bad manners, I think many of you folks blow the thing out of proportions. They're only words you know.

Curses consist of letters. If you want to get rid of every trace of curses you need to stop using any letters that can be used for cursing. Happy new year.
Why would they fill in the blanks as curse words? Most likely due to a "Word" Context
You cant be that ignorant.

I still would like to see an option to set 'permanent' squelches on certain players instead of the lingo filter. Some players are plain obnoxious, especially the ones that attack through pm.

Some here have taken responsibility for their kids. They are working to ask this site to enforce the policy we all agreed to when we signed up. The "don't like the language get headphones" mentality doesn’t fly. I don't have to get headphones. I should expect to be chastised for my bad language because that is what I agreed to if I wanted to play this game. If it's all about the Benjamin’s, I don't think most language abusers are going to quit the game because they got their hand slapped but it will send the clear message that the profanity policy will be enforced.

Hitech has a posted policy against profanity and abusive language towards other players.

It is their obligation to enforce that policy. A statement here supporting that position would have been appropriate.

I don't rave about freedom.  Any newspaper, here on the bulletin boards, and other places show we have more freedom than we can handle.

Again most of you are only worried about what YOU are hearing. What about the 300 12 year olds who get home from school, log on at say 3:30 pm and hear B**** and B***** ( you know who you are) over tank town yelling F this, F that, blow me, suck this all on range? Range is a PUBLIC channel, if you stood in public and screamed obcenities you would be carried away reguardless of how many times you scream "freedom of speech". We're talking about two different kinds of people here, most everyone has let one word or another slip out on range at 1:00am after a few too many beers while flying your 262 into the range of the 5" guns, thats one thing. Listening to Birdo, burnup aka 2Drecon (there I said it) scream F%&! in reputition over range in prime time is a whole other ballgame. As you all know my 13 year old kid plays this game under MY account just as much as I do. I am now forced to have him unplug the headset and turn up the pc speakers to monitor what is going on before I will let him play. Exactly how much fun is AH without a headset and mic? BORING!   My .02 cents worth   :)

An average 12-year old knows more cuss words than most of us do.

Just yesterday I was playing and my 5-year old son sat next to me. The guys were swearing quite a lot on the squad vox and we both laughed at the guys with my son. He was *****ing to them for using 'nasty words' and I transmitted him to the vox too. :D

Even though he was 5-years old he understood that the language was used in good fun and for humour. Finnish language actually allows cursing without sounding offensive at all.

Now tell me, is my sons brain now permanently destroyed and he has no hope of a decent tomorrow? :cry

Thats just sad. My son knows the words too. He also knows the people who use them in a public setting are lacking in moral fiber. Can YOU take a hint?

Very well said

I dont have kids.  But some nights, I just get weary of the overzealous use of profanity.   Its not like Im some sort of holy roller or easily offended by harsh language.  Its just plain rude.  And its not limited to kiddies using every bad word they can say.  Its the adults as well.
