It's a Mauser GW98 w/a 20 round magazine, Russians apparently did this conversion to captured Mausers often.

Maybe it's some partizan craftsmanship, they liked to make different things like that. Or - maybe it's a Polish or Czech G98 with their own trench magazine.

Isn't it also true that the Russians mixed gasoline in their gun oil to keep their actions from jamming in the extreme cold?  I thought about 10 years ago, I read this.
