I'm sure this has been brought up before.....forgive me if it has....(5 billions returns on "map" search)

say,,,If you fly off the east end of the map .....how about reappearing on the west side?

Put a "buffer sector" in between or something...

Just program the feature into one of the maps in rotation now...see how it works.

Just a thought.

Can anyone else besides me see this being abused somehow, someway?
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

That's the only reason to want it.  I think it's gamey enough just to fly off the map now.

What HT should do is put a 500 mph wind around map edge.
Watch as gamey buff dweebs have wings ripped off as they pass into restricted air space.

Whats "gamey" about the way it is now? I have never flown off the map or even wanted too so I have no idea ( other than what was posted a few days ago in the general discussion ). I just always assumed before reading that thread that you would just blink back into the tower if you flew out of bounds.

All you get is a little red arrow showing some one is off the map.
IE no chance of  accidentally hitting a radar circle and no idea of what sector bog might be in.
That's  gamey ( read as I want NO opposition to my style of play).

"Gamey", YES... BUT  I think maybe we should TRY it for this one reason:

It will encourage people to pay attention to the map... think of the sneak attacks that could be massed!

The problem is that its not only "gamey" if you choose to call sneak attacks through the back door due to time warps that. The maps were created more or less balanced out between countries and with the same amount of "hotspots" per country (right after reset). Being able to fly "off the map" and reappear on the other side opens a whole can of back doors etc, that might or might not be balanced at all.

Make them fly another ~30000km before reappearing from other side, hehe. :lol

Are you talking about flying a lancaster mission 25 miles off the map only to have it appear 25 miles from the enemy HQ, then blow it to smithereens?  Yes, it would be abused.
Who are you to wave your finger?

The only way to implement it, without it being abused or gamey, would be to transition to a truly 3d, spherical map. That's gonna take a new 3d engine, all new maps, etc, etc..  ToD isn't even out yet =P I think we're quite some time away from a very powerful (and hardware intensive) 3d platform.

I remember in AH1 flying off the edge of a 512x512 map and a smiley face showed up on my screen just before I exploded

Well, I realize that in many maps where the HQ's are out at the edges, it could be abused....But there has to be one terrrain that it could be tried out on.

Everybody would have to be concerned about a "second front"

Put a (or two) "buffer" sectors, so that if you want to do it...there's a little bit of effort required...and fair warning is given ,  When you''re off the map...an arrow shows...would it really be that much of a software pain to transfer you to the other side when you hit a certain set of co-ordinates?

A country really getting hammered would have a new set of options to attempt a rebound.

HQ raids are a pain, but they're not catastrophic....(Destruction of cities, ammo factories, etc. should have much more significance....but I digress)...

Maybe they should set up an experimental arena.

Set up an entire arena for you and one or two other people to screw around in for fifteen minutes & go "cool":huh  I doubt that'll ever happen.
