Running has it's merits. Lots of times I find myself running, not from the plane who's trying to catch me but from the five planes behind him.

Flatbar that is all well and good, but not the issue.  The issue was a 1V1 engagement where an agressive P51 player would have made a fight out of it, using his plane to all it's advantages.

Leaving the engagement and comming back cherry picking, and in this instance HOing, is not fighting, it is just plain LAME.  

If that is the player style the defenders of the "Run" or I should say runners aspire to, fine.  But they shouldn't  cry when they are called out on it.  That is all.

No very good since I only played AWIII briefly and AH.  :aok   Gaurantee 1 thing tho, if you get behind me, your going to get a fight.  Not some grapefruit snooze fest you guys aspire to.:D :aok

I fly a 110 almost exclusivly, not too many run from me and some of the best 1v1 fights I've had were against P51's.

If somebody decides to run from me then I'll just look for another target. If the runner decides to come back I'll turn into him and shoot him in the face since he's not interested in any real fight using ACM. Four 20mm's and 2 30mm's are very effective in that situation :t

Actually, you need a decent SA to do it. And thats good. But thats exactly what a lot of cherries usually lack :)

I've had P-51s run from 1v1 engagements against my 1-Hog.

It's always funny to see a conga-line of 1 red plane running from a dozen greens (or vice-versa). Reminds me of the end credits of Benny Hill. :D

Hiya Gatt :) Always good to see some crusty old-skool vets still kicking :)

Guess people are talking about 3 issues and some are confusing them. 1. The issue of this thread pertaining to a specific engagement; 2. The general issue of the run away tactic. 3. Generally being a "timid" pilot.

I cant comment on the specific engagement cause i wasnt part of it. There could be any number of reasons why he chose not to engage - timidity being one of those. Who knows?

I think any tactic is a perfectly valid tactic. But people who only have 1 or 2 tactics up their sleeve (whatever they may be) are normally easily dispatched. The mark of a good pilot is knowing which tactic to employ when, to maximise you chances of killing your opponent.

It's easy not to be timid when  the Poonaniestian in AH can do things it couldn't with
