The shrieking about the DaVinci Code
« on: May 17, 2006, 01:58:23 PM »
Holy crap... If I see one more documentary debunking the DaVinci Code I'm gonna go see the movie and tell everybody 'it's all true'.

I don't think I've seen so many millions spent on 'informative' propaganda regarding the entire fictional premise; EVER. History Channel, Discovery Channel, mainstream media and networks... why on earth is the church so terrified that a fiction novel, now a movie, is a threat to the church?

It's FICTION, fer crissakes... we GET it, now fer cripes sakes shaddap and enjoy the movie.

The Church (Roman Catholic) is seeing some of its members who does not know their faith very well, start to believe it is true and not fictional. The bishops have asked there communities not to see this falsehood on Christ's life. I will not waste anymore time on this garbage, and I have changed my views on Tom Hanks and Ron Howard.

it's a bad bad thing to show Jesus as a family man with kids, bad bad.

how can you expect the priests to stay celibate with stuff like that going around.

all the Christians will lose their faith if Jesus was not a virgin.

thank god i'm a pagan.

The History Channel and Discovery Channel are not owned, operated, or likely even influenced by the "church". Most people I know aren't "shrieking" about anything. You wanna hear some shrieking now write something similar about Islam. I don't think there were even any newspapers in the US that had the nerve reprint that cartoon from Europe? I'm betting no one here has the nerve to post it in this forum either.

The History and Discovery channels have jumped on this because the book and now movie have implied this story is the truth. Many people are fascinated and interested in the story.

I recall the Pope saying Mel Gibson's movie was "the truth".  The church has no problem with making silly remarks like that...but they get all defensive about the DaVinci code?

Bizarre.

IIRC, the pope was quoted as saying "that's how it was" after watching the movie. However, I think when questioned about that later he declined to and denied making any comment regarding the movie's authenticity.

It's amazing what a google search can turn up. Where the hell was the  ACLU on this one? http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/1/14/152912.shtml

It's not the destination but the tangent that counts. ;)

I thought most everyone knew DaVinci wrote in mirror image...  How did they make a movie about that?

John9001 my reply to your statement is from your name: Gospel John Chapter 9 verse 001: "As he past by he saw a man blind from birth"

My take to this:
Forgive them Father for they know not what they are doing (saying)

It opens in just a couple days...I can't wait to get in and see what all the hubbubb is about.

I have great respect for Ron Howard (who directed one of the best movies I have ever seen -- A Beautiful Mind -- ) and who doesn't love Tom Hanks?

The book was OK, ending left me a little flat, but overall it was good. I'll go see this movie in the theater.... mainly because I got 2 free passes and this looks like the best thing for a while.

like someone mentioned in another thread, christians often don't do so hot when it comes time to follow the written directions. ;)

why on earth would a christian, in good faith, condem an actor or a director for making a movie that is entertanment.. a thriller. No one.. the author, director, actors or producer is claiming the movie is gospel.

No true christian of faith could possibly have his faith challenged by an entertainment... is your faith so fragile that it is challenged by a mere fictional book or movie? WTF?

Religious Intolerance seems to know no bounds.

Hang, yes there are those that believe what they see on the screen. It is sad that this happens, that is why the bishops have asked their community to know the truth and not be led astrey.

Your guide to the documentaries/hype:

Opus Dei: "O my God! Don't Believe this". These guys have a record of engaging in heavy media campaigns, especially to protect their own image.  They want you to believe they're not scary.

History Channel: Someone's gotta show the documentary that will be bundled in the deluxe 3-dvd edition. Content's gotta come from somewhere.
