Eagl,

Where do I start.

First off I'm the type that thinks garrison office types should wear blues. If they aren't in the field then they where a dress uniform. Along with that I think the maintainers should wear a maint. type uniform. Why should I wear camoflauge that isn't practical to work in and then defeat the purpose of wearing said camoflauge by puting on a reflective belt so people can see me at night?

As you said it's a loss of common sense. I hope we don't have to press out the new BDU. Personally when I'm working mait. I put light starch and run an iron over my BDUs briefly. There's nothing like trying to crawl around underneith the seat of an F15 or discontorting myself to fit in the rear AVbay of an F16 and have my uniform all starchy and unworkable.

In my job now I have to establish standards, even if they aren't practical. I show up everyday with spit shined combat boots that I'd never wear into combat, and razor sharp creased BDUs that would probably cause my uniform to split in half if put under a heavy field load.

To make matters worse I post with my squadron next week. This means I will be the Jr-est of Jrs so I will be working no less than 12-14 hour days and upwards to 15-18 hours at worst. That extra hour and a half I spend prepping my uniform takes away from what little time I have to sleep and spend time with my family so I shell out alot of money by taking them to the cleaners. With the humidity here and my work load I go through easily 5-6 uniforms a week, sometimes 2 per day.....just to establish a standard I don't myself beleive in.....but it's expected of me.

Personally it angers me that I see people that aren't flying wearing a flight suit....SPs riding bycicles wearing shorts....and office types having "polo-shirt friday" when I am not seeing combat yet wearing a combat uniform that is in reality ineffective for combat.

I think I was about twelve years old at the time.

Our civvy maintainers at Sheppard wear a dark blue uniform that sorta looks like a cross between the old style olive drab utilities and a more modern cut "maintenance" style work outfit. It has built-in creases where there should be creases, looks like it's wash and wear, and it looks fairly decent. The Calif Hwy Patrol officers at vehicle inspection stations wear something similiar, and they look fine too.

But if you give mx troops their own uniform, then EVERYONE would want their own uniform. Heck, just look at the trouble pilots get into for having our own uniform. Everyone hates us just because we get to wear nice comfy flight suits

Even missile and space types had to switch away from their special uniforms, and of course they switched to... flight suits.

An Oil painting my son did for me.
Took my basic training Pic from the USCG 1984(left)
Took a pic of my father while in the Navy 1952 (center)
Took his basic training pic USAF 2000 (right)
Gave the 3 pics to an artist and he made this oil painting.
Kinda cool because not only shows 3 generations of military, but were all 3 around 20 -24 years of age in the pic.

The original Oil Painting is on my wall.
As far as the grand kids go, It really doesn't matter, all services have there good points. I did 12 yrs in the USCG and been in the Army the past 10. So i guess we do need a Marine in the house.
Reason I switched over to the Army was due to being a single parent of two. The Army afforded more time at home with them.

I want to be in the army too!

As you can see in the pic, I sometimes remember to shave. And every six months, I cut my hair whether I need to or not. In general, my appearance is of utmost importance, so all the uniform stuff Eagl and Gunslinger talked about means I really really wanna join the US Air Force.

And I am almost never drunk. My overwhelming respect for authority and wish to follow orders is also very clear from the picture.

You wonder why the blonde girl is there? Me too. Not complaining though
