Anyone see the new BMW 335?  Pretty much the same car as last year's 330 but they dropped in a twin turbo good for 300hp and 294ish ft/lbs.  The new coupe styling looks pretty snazzy, the sedan looks like it did last year.  Price is up only a little bit and fuel mileage is supposedly about the same as the non-turbo with 255hp.

300hp puts it up with the previous M3.  The next M3 (2008 I think) gets a 400hp V8 so the new turbo and sports package in the 335 lets BMW 6-cyl fans get near-M performance without having to go up to the new V8 next year.

Plus the 335i will a 300 hp 4-door sedan...  Not many of those on the market except for the little-window-gangsta styled dodges.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Jackal,

You're just jealous :)

Seriously, it's a nice car.  WTF is wrong with wanting a nice car, unless you're a jealous b**ch?

Actually the Japanese - Infiniti G35 and Lexus IS350 both have ~ 300HP engines in their 3 series competitors without going to the trouble of Turbos like BMW...

Kinda puzzled about this engine choice...

Mac,

Who's saying "better"?  Jokes about Rip's garage aside, it's a nice car and people just crap all over anyone who says so :(

That said, I like having short, durable, anti-static treated carpet on the floor around my workbench when possible.  Makes it easier to focus on precision work when I'm not worrying about my sore feet :)

Grun,

100 hp per liter isn't exactly all that easy...  Most 300hp cars I know of are either larger displacement 6cys, v8s, or turbos.  I think they do get some fuel efficiency benefit out of the deal.

300hp in a package suitable for a nice 4-door sedan...  Well, that takes displacement, expensive engine tech, or a turbo, and there just aren't that many decent ones on the market.  The hp and torque curves on this sucker are pretty flat and fat for a turbo and I think that sets it apart from some of the very few other 300hp options.

They're pretty attractive with that turbo/engine package, Eagl. I'm not too wild about the design but that is low on my priority list when shopping. I'd rather have performance than looks.

I figure I'll get another 5-10 years out of my 2001 at least so it won't be for me.

I can get one for essentially invoice plus tax (a savings of about $3500 below what any dealer will sell one for), but I'd have to wait about 4 months for delivery.  Still debating...

BMW need to keep away from the smurfy stick while designing their new cars.  They are getting progressively uglier and uglier.

it was going pretty well until they designed the back... the compact looks especially rediculous.

I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

Wow...that looks like a Solara...which is a BAD thing :lol

For me, if I'm dropping big bucks on a car it better get me to where I'm going in a fun manner, but more importantly it better look like it cost 40,000+(just a figure)
