Why did you subscribe to AH?
« on: August 24, 2006, 08:13:25 PM »
This question is directed to those of you who've subscribed to Aces High in the last 3 - 6 months. It seems there's been a huge influx of new players lately. I'm curious as to where to first learned about the game, why you subscribed and what your likes/dislikes may be.

Please...let's keep this on topic.

I subscribed in April. Used to fly AW back in the late 80's when it was on Genie. I can't remember where I first heard about AH2, but it was quite some time ago. The reason I finally subscribed? I now have more time on my hands on weekends. Dislikes? Mostly the moronic, posturing babble in-game. Some of it's entertaining but it get's old. I'm pretty sure it probably changes the minds of some would-be subscribers. That's okay for the cartoon heroes that think newbs are a sub-human species. It's not okay for Hi-Tech since this is supposed to be a profitable venture that attracts new customers.

Because the Warbirds community had all the tact of your average pack of rabid yaks....and Airwarrior had long since stopped having any meaningful flight model updates.

free beta helped too as did flat rate pricing 8)

I singed up  because at that time, tracers looked cool, i loved the sun reflections, 6DOF in cockpit, and MOST importantly updates and new addditions were released almost on weekly basis.

Oh yea and flat pricing rocked.!

I've been infatuated with WWII aircraft since I was old enough to know what an airplane was.  I went through a period (okay a decade) where my statement was 'I use my computer for work and to socialize I use my gaming systems to play games'.  About 2 months ago by chance I see an ad on the military channel about this game and I'm intrigued because the graphics looked great and it was well presented.  I came to the site, read the boards, and for the most part it looked like a good community (a few pot stirring troublemakers aside).  Downloaded the game and played offline for a while and became addicted.  Got a couple of offers to join squads based on my presentation on the boards and got an invite to the 332nd Mongrels.  Flew a sqad night with them and I was hooked!!  Whipped out my Visa, signed up, and a week or so later was voted in.

I've played PS2, XBOX, XBox 360, Game Cube, and all of the earlier versions of console games, but I'm in for the long haul now (to the point that I gave the kids my xbox and ps2).  This, to me, is more fun and more challenging than any game I've ever played in my life.  And the community be it rook, bish, or knight, keeps me interested and entertained constantly.

Not to mention that my squad fits my personality to a T.

My name's Barry and I'm an AHoholic ;)

I was doing some geneology research on a family member and accidentally came across the AH2 site.  Usually I would just ignore the wrong threads but this one caught my attention.  Since I used to fly the WWII combat sims (Microsoft Combat Series) and seriously collect WWII aviation art, I stuck around and watched the topics HTC site and downloaded the game.  After a month or so of playing around off-line, I signed up.

So, after a moth or so of actually being a paying subscriber, I would have to say so far so good.  I cant fly as much as I'd like to but the people I've seen in the MA are pretty decent.  Then again, I don't tune into ch 200.:D

AH2 gets my vote!  Keep up the good work!:aok

Well, I saw it on a comercial on the Military Channel (Yes, I know most of you have seen it too) and I said to myself "Im gonna get this game!" But when I saw there was a monthly fee, I thought I was screwed, because im too young to have a credit card, and since tomorrow is my birthday, i will only then be old enough to get a job to pay for this, so I was relying on my parents. And they never pay for anything monthly other than rent. But, I managed to get a wager out of them to get the money, and now my dream has come true!!!

1999... I was happily trying to play through Falcon4's multiplayer bugs when one of my team mates HEATER mentioned this.

It took me a week to be able to take off from A1. 7 years later... I still occasionaly crash on landing. Don't laugh... Skuzzy is worse at this than I am :)

I have crashed on take-off, I have crashed when I selected one engine and spun, I have crashed into friendly planes, I have crashed into enemy planes, I have augered and I have stalled, but I have never, not even on my first try, crashed on landing! w00t me!
