I guess I just don't see what all the fuss is about. The only thing different that I can see is there aren't 500 people in an arena. Instead you have 250.
I have yet, in my few excursions in to Latewar, seen anything but what I remember the MA to be. ENY gripes were going on with 500 people too. Rolling up bases doesn't seem to have changed. I sure saw the horde at work in there. The choice of aircraft is the same, and it's mainly LA7s, Spit 16s, N1Ks and 51s that i see, all doing the things they've always done.
So the beef seems to be wanting 500 people.
The nice thing for me is that it gives me more options. I can find a fight in all the arenas but now I know the variety of aircraft I'll see is better.
It does seem like the numbers skew in every arena, but that's the players fault because of a percieved loyalty to a chess piece, or needing a feeling of safety in numbers, or ultimately that 'need' to roll the undefended bases to 'win the war'
I wonder sometimes if the number of bases that could be captured was limited to a certain number in each country if you wouldn't create more fights. First the goal is to get the other guys base, next is to hold the line you've taken into the other guys turf. At a certain point you know you've gone as far as you can, now you have to hold it. You'd be channeling the fights into certain areas and negating the impact of those who milkrun empty bases.
The notion of 'win the war' would be replaced by the notion of 'holding the line". Folks still get base capture, but the air combat would also be intensified I think and the effort to take and hold those bases that could be taken would take more coordination and effort.
Oh well, wishful thinking I'm sure

As a side note, I do believe the 250 cap will in the end help build a better community in each arena as the tone of the people in those arenas is passed on to folks coming in the door.
