Ive noticed that every single battle Ive been in excpet one. Ive won. Been in as in commanded on the battlefeild myself. The battles I let the AI run I stand a larger chance of losing.

If it's on easy you can easily win 5 to 1 odds, it's very simple. Once you get a feel for things I highly suggest bumping up the difficulty. I play  almost every campaign on VH/VH. Once you really get the hang of the game, nything lower can be easy.

nobody anywhere over the age of 2 should play anything other than hardest campaign and battle settings!!1

ya gotta play on full unit size if your PC will hack it.

first battle is 4000 egyptians smashing through my 2100 strong greek main army's front line as thier 1500 reinforcements hit the near flank. 2000 elite greek are in the forest in the farground launching a swift flank and rear gaurd attack. probably the biggest fight i've seen with nearly 10000 troops on the field.

the next set of pics is 600 veteran numidian cavalry defending a hill 1100 rookie infantry, flanks gaurded by my best infantry but only a few units. at the rear and spread out are 450 archers with serious experience. i like archers. Carthage had brought 5000 odd fresh green hoplites and infantry down to us in two armies. the main assault was led by the totaly inexperinced infantry but 2800 or so strong they pose a large threat if they can flank us, you can see my uber horses obliterating them before they could form up despite heavy loses we turned them all to route one by one.  the reinforcements marched on right into our flank very quickly, the elephants and cavalry caused considerable loses to my infantry as can be expected  but with concentrated infantry hordes surrounding them they eventually start rampaging, running back  through the reinforcement infantry tearing thier own formation to pieces, right in time for my cavalry to chase them back off the map.  quite a fight, my numidians suffered 60%  loses but had beaten a predicted 8:1 fight and we took out 93% of thier troops!! it was a proud day in africa.

currently i am playing as the Ilyrians on the R:TR mod. I am very proud of me archers, and have been nuturing them for the best part of 100 years.  I am particularly proud of them seeing as these cetans are mercanaries and i cannot train or retrain them. the smaller bank of silver archers is the one i used to top up the golds should they unfortunately lose a man or two in a battle. i treat my archers like golddust, the infantry is mearly a flesh heap to climb over before you can get at the archers. archers and cavalry are all i ever train or take care of.

Not gona lie. I got bored. :lol

It got very repetitive. Build army. Seige. Battle. Win. Exterminate populace. Rince and repeat.

then you really need to get into the role a bit more :)

for starters, try capturing a far off city with a huge population, then exterminate them and loot the 10-20kdenarii from their burning houses. now say these were the Carthaginians. now find an Ally of crathage and send your diplomat to give the captured region to them.   hmm now carthage have a problem, they want thier capital back but thier weaker a\lly is holding it with no garrison. oh well, war it is then. mwwahaha. your army slinks off into the moutains to find another target.

another enjoayble one for me is plague distributing.   when you get a plagued city build some spys and bung them in a fort in the countryside somewhere. you now have agents capable of not only spying on cities but giving them all plague. oh yes...:t . when they get old put a new young spy in the fort to keep the weapon available.

dont forget that you can also speed up the siege, fight, repeat boredom with spys opening the gates for you (just dont use sick ones)

training and developing master assassins is a must.

take an army, the best youve got, and find a perfect battle field to defend in someone else land.  if you have a huge army that cannot be beaten because of a tactical possition then you can essentially keep it there forever topping up with mercenaries. Once you have such a poblem lodged firmly in the huge Roman heart, they will concentrate all efforts to remove you, leaving thier borders weak and your settlements un-hindered.

Work deeply into the politics of the other factions.  i once paid the gauls a regular tribute as an offer that eventually mounted up to 350kdenarii over 150 years.  sure helped me kick the romans out of europe though. Eventually they turned on me and i had a weak barbarian faction to defeat rather than a mighty roman one.

learn to defend your regions on the borders, with forts and scout armies. dont ever let them into your lands and you dont have to fight the boring seiges every turn.

hmm...thinking of more...when playing as a weak faction, send your spies out to uber developed top factions and look to which settlements have a foundry to produce silver standard armour and weapons. take a ship and an army and nick it off them. capturing people places and destroying all thier building, then leaving a tiny population on full tax with no garrison hugely sets back your opponents.

man, i love this game :)

R: total realism patch is by far the best.
