The best part of the game is now history
« on: September 28, 2006, 09:23:13 PM »
After the new arena format change, I've come to realize that the biggest reason I played this game was to fly with my squad. This in my opinion was the best part of the game. Period. And that has now been taken away.

I used to fly almost every night for a mission or two with my squaddies, but I havent even logged an hour since the change. Nobody is ever in the same arena and it's near impossible for that to happen anymore with the number limitations in each arena.. The days of upping with 5-10 of my squaddies are over, and this is most unfortunate.

This game is no longer fun for me because of this reason, and unless something changes soon, I may not be around much longer. After 3 years of fun, I'd hate to see it come to this.

Used to be that I could find at least 3-5 squadies on everyday of the week. Now the average number on is close to zero. Maybe once or twice a week one will be  on.

I agree. The change has decimated the Hells Angels. We hardly ever fly together anymore. I really miss them, the squad was what kept me coming back for more.

You could argue that as AHII grows, we would eventually reach the point where we have to split the arenas. I was hoping that the technology would continue to grow and we could have a true massive multiplayer flight sim with thousands in one arena some day. An entire world to fight in at the same time. Guess I was dreaming a bit too much.

It was the massive multi-player that made this so much more interesting than Air Warrior. I remember when AW had 8 arenas each with just a 150 or so players. I feel like we're going backwards in time.

AIM anyone?  Email?  These things are still available...  Might be easier than trying to reset time...

Yes, we all have access to AIM or email or whatever else instant message service is out there.  The problem is not a question of reaching, but an issue of being able to fly and interact with one another.  If I just wanted to call up a friend and chat, I will pick up the phone.  I come in AH to fly/play and interact with the squad mates.  It is, afterall, what brought us all together in the first place.  We like to stick with it.

I know that it was very common for at least 5 or 6 Mafia members to be on every night. Roughly 13 to 20 on squad nights.

Now it's about 8 or so on squad nights..and maybe 2 or 3 on off squad nights. :(

I certainly miss it as well.

I know 1 cancled his account in disgust...but i think some of the others are just waiting to see if things get back to normal.

With any luck at all Mugzeee, if we as a community can approach it with ideas to improve the game play, instead of just lamenting what was, maybe we'll make it better.

Seems like we at least got heard out in that other thread of mine.  I'd rather go at it that way.

Arcades, I think you're giving an oversimple answer to MOSQ's post.

A large squad with a variety of people will have different interests or hot buttons for players, but the cameraderie is what makes the squad. Some members are infrequent flyers, but are still vox and virtual buddys when they do show up. Many squads have a loose structure and no real squad night, they just show up and sometimes do things together, and other times those with similar interests work together, such as gvs or fighters only or bombers. They still communicate but are not always at the same place creating a horde.

The arena limits limit the ability of those folks to 'hang around' together. Tonight was an example, since LWI was full and LWII had about 10-15 people. In LW you can still do anything, fly anything, gv, have cvs, etc. If they can't get in LWI and the other arenas are populated lightly (12 or 30 players), or the other arena doesn't appeal to the player as a lone wolf, the player either does something they don't enjoy as much in a lightly populated arena, or logs off.

The social aspect of loose squads that aren't single minded (i.e. only fly X planes, only fly X historical planes, only fly X country, only gv, only grab land, only fly fighters, etc.) has deteriorated significantly. Either they have to form new or less virtual friendships or squads based on single-minded interests, get used to flying individually, become a rigid squad with attendance rules and procedures or not play as much, or enjoy it as much.

I don't have any heartburn about the different arenas. I think that players in non-peak US time and loosely organized, more socially-centered squads are affected the most by this change. HTC seems aware of it and I trust they're trying to figure out ways to remedy it.

Rolex, Well said boss!

I know I was lamenting. Ok, guilty. Believe me, I'd love for all of us to come up with some solutions, I'm not giving up yet!

And I still think massive multi-player is the way of the future in all SIMS, not just AHII.

xNOVAx,
I'm having the same problems and the game is not fun for me anymore. I decided to quit and disband the squad but after some days of rethinking and cooling down .... well, I'll give them a couple of months to big-fine-tune the thing or eventually let us try the Combat Tour. And this becouse I've been enjoing so much the game before 9/13, *since 1999's beta*. I cannot believe everybody went crazy at HTC and ruined the fun for quite a big part of the community. So, lets give them some more time.

EW and MW  always have plenty of room  maybe take your squads  in there  and you can all be together again nice and happy.

The more people who complain about not getting into the LW arena is stupid.

You guys loved the old MA and now you refuse to try the new offerings.

If your squaddies are happily playing in LW and you cant get in how about the CO of whatever squad decides to try something different.
