38 Damage model question.
« on: October 20, 2006, 11:45:55 PM »
The big gap between the fuselage and the horizontal stabilizer. When a bullet passes into that area does the system record that as a hit or does it just pass through harmlessly?

I think it only registers a hit if the bullet hits the polygons.

huh?:huh

polygons are the fundamental bits of airplane and shape.  Since there can be no curves there are shapes comprised of nothing but straight lines which are polygons...hence why they're called polygons.

Its not really "how big are polygons" because everything you see is a polygon.  The airplane is made of many many many many polygons.  Think of it as the airplane is made of chain maille.  A single polygon is one circle or link of metal.  many many many bits of metal overlapped are eventually shaped into something.  In this case the something is an airplane.

I'm pretty sure that the hit boxes are larger than they should be on all aircraft, or perhaps the bullets are too wide.  Coming from Lock On: Modern Air Combat (a fine simulator) and Pacific Fighters (terrible game), gunnery in this simulator is incredibly easy.

whenever flying with in formation with my squad, I tend to go in a low dive then pull up and shoot between Corky's booms, just to make sure he is awake;)

In modern graphics there are polygons out of bent lines too, so they dont need to be formed with straight lines anymore.

Any bullet fired with in 500 yards of my 38G tends to hit it even if the bullet was pointed away from my plane.

Not sure why that is......:)

38's are over resistant IMO, they can take as much hispano as many bombers and won't loose their wings no matter what.

If that's really true, then I got a bum 38....over and over and over again :)

How many pics you want of my missing wing 38G?  Pilot wounds?  I've had thousands.  Tail come off easy?  A million times.   Engines shot out?  Too many to count :)

Noir try flying the P-38.  You'll soon disagree.

I think because it has two engines it's twice as easy to destroy one of them.

i think i have to say,,,,,,,,,,38's are by no means oer resistant.......it seems as though if a pilot that's bailed out shoots his hand gun in my general direction, i get serious damage. :O  the wings break too easily..........NO ONE misses a 38 in a head on.........and i STILL can't get my crew chief to take the bullseye off of my tail!
