The sentence is not final, it is automatically appealed. The government do not make legal rulings, the courts do.

Yes but Arafat was hugely popular among the masses. Saddam wasnt.
The situation was different also. Arafat wasnt largly know for killing his own people. And there was a common enemy of Isreal.

Saddam is not known for killing his own people either. The Shi'ites and Kurds are not his people - his "subjects" perhaps. Saddam was also very popular among the Iraqi Sunnis, and they do have a common enemy in the Shi'ites and Kurds.

So I don't think the situations are as different as you like to think.

really? think about thirty years of nothing but long days in a hot climate outside. not being productive, just being. no thanks I'd gladly accept death as welcomed relief. of course I can understand how someone with a limited imagination might not see things the same way.

Right. Because prisons these days are akin to the old days of physical labor, hot southern summers, and no ammenities whatsoever.
