Taxes
« on: November 11, 2006, 06:39:31 PM »
Not sure if this needs commentary, just thought it was a funny email my dad sent me.

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.
Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries, then
Tax his tears.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass
Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams,
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.
Put these words
Upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me
To my doom..."
When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.
Accounts Receivable Tax
Building Permit Tax
CDL license Tax
Cigarette Tax
Corporate Income Tax
Dog License At x
Federal Income Tax
Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA)

COMMENTS: Not one of these taxes existed 100 years
ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the
world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the
largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home
to raise the kids.
What happened?
And don't forget to "press 1" for English.

The first federal income tax was imposed by Congress in 1862.

When the muslims rule the world I hope they'll go easy on the taxes. Bowing to meca 5 times daily might not be so cumbersome as the taxes we face today.

More money goes to human services than the military. Don't make me break out the graphs. ;)

We HAD a military to pay for 100 years ago, and our current military is MUCH smaller than it has even been since before WW2

Our military is not the same composition as it was 100 years ago.  I'll stop right there, as you obviously get confused very easily.

"Current military” includes Dept. of Defense ($449 billion), the military portion from other departments ($114 billion), and an unbudgetted estimate of supplemental appropriations ($100 billion). “Past military” represents veterans’ benefits plus 80% of the interest on the debt.*

Military spending= 30% + 19%= 49%

Well... according to the Washington Post, the 2006 Budget proposal includes 419.3 Billion on Defense, plus about another 30 Billion if you want to throw in Homeland security... (And you can add another 34 Billion for the Department of Veterans Affairs if you like... which by the way, is grossly underfunded IMHO...)

Compare that if you will to the  642 Billion on Health and Human Services...(keeping in mind that that accounts for all the research funding at the NIH, Medicare, Medicaid, the CDC, and TANF (aka Welfare - though this is by far the lowest portion of the HHS budget accounting for less than 10% with Medicare taking more than 50% as I recall... but i may be off on that)

You can read this for yourself at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/interactives/budget06/budget06Agencies.html

The fact of the matter is that it's not cheap to provide the services required to keep America going... Blaming Taxes on the expenses associated with the military is disingenuous... blaming it them on welfare is an even bigger joke (IMHO).

Keep in mind we're all still paying less than people in Europe...  so get a job...pay your taxes... and STFU!!! j/k

:lol :D

A lot of those taxes did exist 100 years ago. Did you know the current tax on telephones was invented to pay for the Spanish-American War? That must have been one expensive war.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Wouldn't "past military" be considered social spending.  That's VA benifits, retirments, ect.?

And I agree we DO NOT have a huge military.
