Many directors that win best director Oscars are overrated, as are the writers who win Best Screenplay. Movies that earn all 3, however, did something right, and in a big way. Like it or not, this movie did many thnigs right, and rightfully earn Costner a place as a movie maker.

On a personal note: I saw it, and although I was not always drawn into the character's plight, I can say, without a doubt, that it was visually impressive, that its production values were on par with the best, and that suspension of disbelief was total. It was a big, impressive movie that many people enjoyed and will continue to enjoy despite what the director did in his subsequent career.

Just saying.

I agree.

I thought Dances with Wolves was a very good  film. I'm no fan of Costner, but that was a good film and he fit the role well.

If Gandolf could summon those big prettythang eagles at the end to save Frodo and Samwise, couldn't he have saved everyone a lot of walking and summoned them at the beginning to drop the dam ring in the volcano from the air?

Almost forgot:  David Arquette as a young Gus McCrae in "Dead Man's Walk."  Was like getting my fingernails ripped out one by one watching him butcher a character that Robert Duvall made so memorable.

i hate Jurassic park with a vengence.

read the book before hand and really enjoyed it.

point of the book: to get back to the control room over a dinosaur covered island to stop the ship from reaching the mainland. (wont spoil why they have to stop the ship).

Film: How the child hating Scientist comes to love children by the end.

Just hate it.

Also did you notice the Laptop used to make and download the virus in Independance day was an Apple Laptop, its kind of ironic its an Apple what with the normal apples 'dont have a virus problem'.

Goldblum's Apple did not have a virus problem.  It just was a carrier to infect the alien's Wintel based computer system.

A chariot from Gladiator...
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Well...they actually had to wait untill the big planet moved out of the way of the moon...the rebel base was on a moon :)
Political correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

What did they do, corrupt their .exe files?  Were they running Windows?

I can't get a mac to talk to a pc, and they just up an created a virus that will infect alien computers?

They actually uploaded a Beta version of Explorer 7.

of what i've actually seen in theaters over the past year or so...

cars was pretty dissapointing, mater was the only thing that saved it.

the davinci code was crap, i was expecting something better given the amount of whining that was done.

that harry potter movie was pretty bad as well, teen angst in a movie based of of childrens books...ick

almost everything else was garbage to, but i didnt have any expectations...only things that were worth the cost was lucky number slevin and over the hedge.
