"I think it's MiniD coming off like a..."

Well he is and usually does but in this case he's on target.

However feel free to be the self appointed counselor/PR man/ whatever for someone who not only has the ability to clarify the whole thing but chooses not.
As has been noted already your replies are adding to what has now turned into "the" entertainment.  Don't feel bad at the end however for some misguided idiot always chooses to do "the duty" (willingly I'll add).  You'll just end up joining the ranks of the not-so-smart. Folks like 2Slow who stood up for Voss or Golfer who defended Straiga - just two clear examples who come to mind.

OMFG!

Iceman was telling the truth!

Detective David Walters is a neighbor of the Derek Bearden family… and a great guy BTW…

Of course, he laughed his rear end off when I relayed the story to him.

He confirmed that IT WAS A HOAX. Never Happened.

We had a laugh filled 15 minute conversation where we covered all the details. I have sent him a copy/paste of his last post and the links to the article. He was a bit miffed at being used in such a manner, especially where it relates to his reputation or that of the department. But my take is that the humor this will generate, undoubtedly throughout the department, goes a long way towards making amends.

Betty/Murdr - his direct line is: (PM me for the number). He would be happy to confirm the the details of this post.

should you be posting his number in a public forum where he may likely receive dozens if not hundreds of frivolous calls?  just saying

Nice edit to say it was Hoax, instead of posting with the initial reply.

Storch, I agree, this man has better things to do than receive phone asking about "an incident that may have happened, but may not have."    I'd take the number down, cops don't usually "broadcast numbers where they can be reached."(excluding 911).

He had no problem with it, but then perhaps we miscommunicated the process. I'll remove mine (and give it out via PM) and ask the cross post in the OCLUB to do the same.

I was counting on a sense of irony and reading comprehension... my bad. I added the edit after it went swoosh over your head.

He was actually very happy to clear this up, and didn't think it was all that trivial.

I have VERY GOOD understanding of English.   not one word of "irony" was received, nor even HINTED in your first post Charon.   Anytime you wish to compare "english reading and comprehension skills", I'm game.

How could you miss the irony and sarcasm in this paragraph?

charon I too missed the irony in your initial post, I saw it as a confirmation or a verification that the subject was indeed truthful and that perhaps apologies might be in order.

Sorry then.

Details:

The detective knew the family.

The event never happened.

He was very amused by the story.

Now, you can consider directing your angst where it is deserved, instead of at the messanger.
