What's Your Fun Gun?

Marlin .22 rifle is the one that gets the most use.

When I'm in KC with the TAS guys it's my OU shotgun because we have a great afternoon blasting clays out of the air.

For a big gun, I like shooting my Garand.

My two all-purpose, light-weight, easy to shoot weapons are a Rossi SRS 92 (Winchester 1892 clone) chambered in .357 mag w/16" barrel and a Marlin Camp9 with six 20 round mags.

Both are outstanding "house" guns.

The Rossi 92 weighs 5.5 lb loaded, while the Marlin is about the same weight and size as the Ruger 10/22, but being chambered in 9mm, it offers decent knock down power (I load Winchester SilverTips or Remington Golden Sabre +P). Likewise, I prefer SilverTips in the Rossi as exposed lead HPs will distort when left in the tube mag for more than a few hours.

Both rifles are great for an afternoon of plinking.

My regards,

depends on mood.   the gun must be an accurate example of the breed tho and be dependable.   I like a gun with some heft to it and made of metal.   If it is finished nicely and machined well those add to the experiance.

For a plinking rifle I like the .223 class like the mini 14 or ar15 family.

For longer range and more fun I like the bolt action battle rifles and the old Garand.

Handguns... most are fun.   don't much like the plastic ones tho.

Dont have one anymore but I'd go with a 45 LC Colt Single Action Army copy (Uberti anyone?).  Of course an original Colt would be best if you can afford one.

.75 caliber Brown Bess Flintlock Musket (replica). A 10 pound monster with a 42 inch barrel. A lot of noise, a lot of smoke, and about 2 ounces of lead with each shot.

I'm sorry guys.  It sounds pathetic, but my recent fun gun of the last 6 months is my Winchester 1000xs pellet rifle.  haven't chronoed it but its advertised at 1000 fps. its a .177 pellet.  If you live in an urban environment,  you need one of these.  with a 4x scope you will take names at 25 - 50 yards.  racoons, squirrels, rabbits.  I use everything I kill.

Your pellet gun can kill a raccoon?  Either my pellet gun isn't as good as yours, or we have huge raccoons.  I'm leaning towards the latter...

I think i had the same rifle. Is the trigger something like 10lbs, i bought one for the house and then returned it after the first time i pulled the trigger. I hope they fixed the trigger because it was a nice rifle for the price. I had a beeman as kid and that was my best purchase ever. It finally broke in 2002 and i have no idea what the pellet count was down the barrel. We would shoot dimes off a fence at 40 yards with it.

ALL of my guns are my favorite fun gun. Only those that belinged to my Dad are not fun toys. The locals call me a recoil junky. I only own two guns that aren't magnums, unless you count Dad's stuff.

i haven't been shooting for a while but, i'd  choose an L1A1 SLR ( FN FAL) which has a real mans recoil :D

for a bit more firepower a Bren is nice with a 7.62 conversion

another option would be a Lee Enfield MK III

I guess the funnest gun for me, when I first got it, was a reproduction Sharps 50-70 carbine.  This is a falling block action and the cartridge looks like a small artillery shell.  It's not limited to black powder, you can use smokeless powder.   I had to make those rounds, couldn't buy 'em 20 years ago.

The rifle doesn't kick at all, about like a .22 and is not much louder if not about the same loudness (with smokeless powder and medium loads.)  Killed my first deer with that rifle.  I guess what's fun about it to me is it's like a big .22 .  It's a lot of fun to hunt with, or was for me at the time.   Don't think I could see the sights for hunting nowadays.  They're little 'ol small sights.
