Modelling Plastic Models Of Wwii Planes!!!!!!
« on: December 26, 2006, 08:57:54 PM »
Hiya guys, I just started a thread of where we can talk about making static models of fighters, bombers, transports, etc. of ww2.  Tomorrow, I will have a couple of pictures of a ME262 a1-a that I just finished tonight!  So please reply with my work so i can fix the problems and make my next couple of models better.  Next: I will work on a b17-F, then a ME163, then a Bird Cage F4U-1 Corsair, then a P51D Mustang, then a HE-111, and finally a very detailed model(difficulty level is 5 which is for ages 21 and up) of a JU-53.  I am very excited on working on these and please show some pics of what you're working on guys.
TY and have a happy new year!:aok

"Hiya guys, I just started a thread of where we can talk about making static models of fighters, bombers, transports, etc. of ww2."

Well, where is it? Is this the thread? My prediction is that you will finish part of the B17 and then you will get to the turrets and you'll give up. It is part of growing up. You are so full of enthusiasm that you can't wait to take pictures of your models, but that will fade away and eventually you'll discover girls. You'll meet a girl, tell her that you will love her forever, but it's nonsense. The only friend a man needs is the bottle. Jack Daniels is always there. Carry on.

So do you usually try to come off as a condescending stuck up sticky beak??

Like this one from the chirstmas thread....

"Unlike everybody else reading this, I got a bottle of mead, which I will start to drink in the very near future. This thread is going to turn into a snapshot of the wants and desires of white middle-class America."

Or how about this one from the B20 vs ShvAk thread...

"I often find myself at dinner parties, and the conversation turns to aircraft armaments of WW2, and I do not want to make an embarassing faux pas in front of the other guests."

Speaking of growing up.....

I like Tamiya. Their most recent kits especially are very nicely detailed.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

I'd have a better chance in running into a Dodo Bird in the middle of rush hour, walking down the I-5 with two hookers in tow before I see a useful post from glock89- Ack-Ack

I think that depends on the Trumpeter kits. From what I've heard some of their kits are REAL inaccurate.

Avoid trumpeter until you've got 10 years of building kits under your belt. Why? It's not worth it. They charge an arm and a leg. The up-swing is they're usually WORTH it, once you have the skills and experience to appreciate it. However, if you're going to butcher a 1/24th 109, don't do one of the $200 new Trumpeter kits, do the old Airfix one that only costs $50.

As for Tamiya kits: I don't gravitate toward them. They cost more than other kits. Mind you, you have to find the right balance between low cost and adequate kit quality. (in other words don't go bargain basement or the kit will suck). I've had some fun times with old 50's Airfix kits, with 80s and 90s Monogram kits, with a couple old ("cheap") hasegaway kits. Academy is a nice line for low price, but they usually have questionable accuracy on some kits. They also are releasing vehicles in 72nd scale (I wish more would).

Basically go to the hobby shop of your choice, figure out what you want, then look at the brands, and if there's one brand (like Trumpeter) that's $50 over all the other manufacturers, skip it.

All in all it really depends on the aircraft. Company X might make an A-10 better than company Y, but company Y far surpasses X in quality with their P-51A kit.

Thanks for the comments on the different kits... The last thing I built was a B-17 and that was 15 Years ago...

I thought it might be a good hobby for me the kids... The older ones atleast....

Start out on Revell/Monogram, them move up to Hasegawa or Tamiya.

I haven't bothered with the more expensive ones, I move a lot and my models always get destroyed. I lost 8 different 20th FG P-38s in the last one (1 H and 7 Js!).
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

You want some relatively cheap(er) kits that have decent quality? Look for Academy. Some kits have problems (I hear the P-38s have issues) but for the most part they have a great 1/72nd line of kits and for not too much $$$ either.

Then again, if you want to spend just a little more (still not in the Trump range) Fine Molds has been putting out some new and very high quality kits, like newly tooled 109F molds, and they have a good trend to build Star Wars fighters in 72nd scale (nice to have it in a normal scale!).
