Modelling Plastic Models Of Wwii Planes!!!!!!

I only speak from experience on 1/48 scale, I don't go any smaller than that. I prefer the detail of the larger.

Hell, I have a 1/18 P-51D of "Ridge Runner" on my dresser behind me right now. :)
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

I usualy build Academy,Tamiya,Hasegawa in 1/48th scale.Anymore your goin to spend 20-30 bucks on these kits here in the states. At least in NJ.Ya might get them cheaper online but usualy the shipping just evens it out.Squadron.com runs sales every month I beleive.Ya can find stuff cheap there sometimes. To me spending the extra 5-10 bucks for the better kit is worth it.But you gotta make that decision for yourself.Considering it takes the same amount of time to build and paint a cheap kit I might as well invest it in a nice one I figure.

Krusty I tried buildin a 1/72 scale tank.An easy 8 sherman. It was too small for me.1/35 scale is what i tend to do.Did a Trumpeter KV-1 not long ago.Kit looks nice.Trumpeter has put out a lot of new kits in a short time.Tanks, planes, ships its amazing. For years and years I watched as the same old kits were sold year after year.

Just finished a Hasegawa 109-g14 yesterday.Goin to start a Academy 38J today or tomorow.I got a pile of other stufff just waiting for proper insperation.

Thats another part of bein a good modeler.ya need to buy a crap load of kits and let them sit around heheheheh seems everyone in the hobby does it

Hey Pipz, you're right about tanks. Something just isn't right unless they're 1/35th. However, having cars, tractors, and so forth, is pretty cool when you can make a mini-diorama. You want to talk small? I did the Academy 1/72nd Kettenrad. And I super-detailed it!!! (well, for me it's "super detailed", but I hear they make a very complex PE set for it).

I like 72nd for aircraft though. A 72nd WW2 fighter is a good size. Still lare enough to see individual instruments, to detail the seats and sidewalls of the cockpit, but not large enough to take up all your $$$ and shelf space. My storage is limited (and always has been, it seems). Plus I like twin engine bombers, and 72nd is the best way to go for larger planes. There are problems with quality and lack of detail in some kits, but the same goes for 48th scale as well.

I had a Roden(t) He111E-1 almost ready for final paint when the new cats trashed the main gear struts something awful. VERY bad kit, but I got it looking pretty smooth. Now if only those cats hadn't ruined 4 hours of work (yes, 4 hours, no placement pins, no angle diagrams, and very complex landing gear struts, one for each wing).

I guess the leason here is build what you enjoy and have fun with it.Thats pretty much the point of the hobby I would think.Theres somethin for everyone.I have a digital camera I have to plug into my system and figure out. Then I gotta figure out how to posts pictures in here Once I have it all figured Ill post pictures of my builds. Its always fun to share the hobby with others.Treize saw some of my builds on the 475th board I think.SF3 had posted them for me.Anyway ill get movin on postin pictures.

This is a little under 1.5 inches long.

EDIT: P.S. for those that don't know, this was often used to tow aircraft over unfinished surfaces (the treads were more than capable).

I've always liked RC planes in general (hey, they fly!) but my hobbies tend toward the inert versions of small aircraft :)

Does that 190 have retractable gear?

Also, does anyone know of an R/C Bf-109?

My wife got me a Revell Germany B26 (she mixed up B-25 and 26 somehow in her head, bless her heart).  Now, I haven't built a scale model in about 8 years...  it will cost me at least $120 to get all the supplies I need to do that model properly (airbrush, paints, knives, etc. etc.)... so I'm on the fence.

That being said there are some sites that review kits and show techniques.

I 2nd this one.  You can usually find the 1/48 Revell kits at Wal-Mart for about $8.00.  In this line I've found the P-40B, Bf-109G, P-47D Razorback, and the A6M Zero.  Cockpit detail is almost non-existant - for example the pilot sits on a post sticking out from the side of the a/c, but they will give you practice in the basics, as well as painting and/or airbrushing before you tackle one of the more expensive models.

For awhile I was bulding a lot of the 1/72 scale palnes to fill out holes in my die-cast colection, but recently have moved back to 1/48 because I enjoy detailing them and you can do more in this scale and still have some shelf room left than if you go to 1/32 or 1/24.

Lately I've been building Tamiya's 1/48 line of WWII planes, and enjoying the heck out of it.  They are fairly detailed for the scale, and respond well to the weathering, shading, and other techniques to give you a nice loking model in the end if you do your part.

Excellent job on that one!  That's the Tamiya Birdcage kit, right?  I have one in my stash I'm looking forward to building - looking at your pics makes me want to move it to the front of the line.  Currently finishing up an F-84 jet - my first jet model.  Hundreds of decals . . . .
