Naming a map after 68ko or special event
« on: January 10, 2007, 09:46:17 AM »
I was just wandering how much support I could get on asking Hitech to name a map or special event after 68KO in memory of his dedication to the game. It's just a thought I had and your input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and Salute to all<>:aok

I can't see anything wrong with that as it will keep his name around and have new players asking what 68ko is...............:)

Better idea.....name airfields after AH Players.  Instead of A1....would be 68KO....naturally would be a base for the country that he most flew for.

Air Warrior did this.  I know we've lost a few squadmates in TFC also.  Would be a fitting tribute to those departed.

Of course maybe some criteria should be used to name a base after a player.  And I don't know how feasible this would be to HTC.

its a very difficult road of customer service for a company to ride along if you ask me, as sentimental and good the gesture might be. i think it would be a fitting tribute to the customers and also a heck of alot of admin work added and difficult scenarios especially which players would be remembered in such a way, and which should not.

why dont the 68th choose a field on one of KO's favorite maps, his favorite possition for the wars whatever, and then all shall know that when the 68th are defending or attacking that field, they are doing it with the unity of these sad times

yeh our event organisers (of the AHXARL) are talking to the rest of the big cheeses about renaming this league to include 68KO, being the founding father of the racing league and all

seems fitting to me

see if they go for it, not likes its imposing on the casual user, as the racing league is an opt-in event :aok

we shall see

Not to be blunt or anything, but many AH players have passed away, and many more will in the future. Obviously we can't honor every single one of them, can we?

Like Batfink said sharing the heartache and sorrow is all good and sentimental, but there's a line to be drawn between individual matters and public matters. 68KO will be missed by many people, but to honor an individual deceased gamer by effecting a part of the game doesn't seem to be appropriate.

Let 68KO's memories rest with his loves ones and friends. It is there where it belongs, not in the game.

My $.02
68 KO was an integral personality in this community. I feel he needs to be remembered in a way that honors his contributions here. I like the map idea, I also like the Air racing league suggestion. I understand that people pass away here. But 68 KO was more then a paying memember. 68 KO was a driving force that brought something more then a squad to be reckoned with. He brought a certain carisma and relevance that needs to be recognized and honored in a way symbolic of his contributions.

When I was with the 13th TAS, we hired a very famous map maker/skinner/pilot to make a map in honor of one of our squaddies that passed due to cancer ... this man was also a very well known and respected individual in the "sim" community ... most vets would know him, most other wouldn't ... hench OZKansas.

We took it on as a squad rather than ask HTC to make an exception to the game as it existed, as it was our private tribute to OZ, maybe the 68th could do the same for KO.

Maybe a special flight package still staying historic but using his setup for the 51 and naming the set after him.

this would be alot better of an ideal for KO alot of folks are going to disagree with what you are wanting. HTC is in need of new maps for the comunity is growing old of current maps. so if you are that gun ho about it might want to take slap up on his ideal. <>

Back in the WBs 2.7x days we unfortunatly lost a young squad member. David "Karz" Jones was not only a squad mate but a personal friend who lived near me. Not too long after I was flying offline for practice and encountered Karz as one of the AI drones. I believe it was Natedog who decided to do this and I can't tell you how much this meant to me and his best friend in realife Cars.

I'm not sure if I ever got to thank Natedog, HiTech and the rest for this wonderful memorial...so Thank You folks, from the bottem of my heart.
The presedence has been set...no reason in the world not honor someone as well respected as 68KO in whatever fashion is deemed appropriate.
