How do I avoid the "Dweeb" moniker?
« on: January 10, 2007, 10:33:30 PM »
I am about 5-6 weeks into the sim/game and am pretty well hooked. I keep an eye on the BBS for information or opportunities I can use to increase my skill level.

The thing thats bothering me is I dont want to end up as another spixteen or lala dweeb even though I've primarialy been flying spit 16's. I've been trying out other aircraft, p38, a couple 109's, some F4's, hurris, typhoon, to name a few, all in the hopes of finding one I like as much as the spit. To me the spit is just a damn sexy aircraft, never mind that it flies well and has excellent weaponry.

I prefer to turn rather than BnZ (especially since I learned how easy it is to avoid a BnZ'er). I like to get in close where my craptastic gunnery might actually land a hit or two.

I'm not really gung-ho on the japanese planes, probably because I cant tell a zero from a zeke. But I'd be willing to try one out for a few weeks if the majority of the suggestions lean that way.

So I'm asking, aside from the spit 16 and the la 7, which planes should I be taking a closer look at?

First, fly what you like and dont worry about someone calling you a dweeb. If you like the Spit 16 or the Lala, then fly it.

If you like to turn, other good options are the FM-2, Niki, Hurricane's and my favorite the Ki-84.

The ones YOU like. Dweeb is just a name ya get called by people who think because they are so good or talk smack better they can just make you do what they think you should be doin or flying what they think is a "Mans" ride.

Get past the dweeb thing.

Once you find your style of flying , then try planes that fit that style. Caution tho , you can get bored with yank and bank. And you can get bored with BnZ. Learn one. Get pretty good at it in the plane you feel best suits YOU...Not the other guy. Then Try to learn the other side of the coin.

Don't fall victim to thinking because you fly something , and trust me I HATE LA7's , that it in some way puts a sign on you.

This is all about YOUR FUN....not the other guys. You do what YOU enjoy. What you pay YOUR 14.95 a month to do. ANd let the rst call names. Spit and whine.

That would be my advice.

Now TnB planes...Seafire...SpitV...A6 M....Hurri's....those would be my picks.

F6F's  FM2's are pretty good lil TnBer's as well.

F4U's..P51's to TnB in you need quite a bit of practice. Those are what I considerr more Angle fighters...but CAN be very lethal in TnB when flown by people who have spent time i them alot. Skyrock...SirLoin....GTR....S nifu....Balsy....MtnMan...Cbi zKit are all very good HOG drivers. And many more I didnt mention.

Steve...SkatSr.....IMO are the 2 best pony drivers....There are many more as well.

LYNX....FX....Batfink.....Big gles....are all very good Spit Drivers....Also many more.

Creton is the top 109 driver IMO...but many more good ones as well.

Learn from these guys about what they fly and do best....pick thier brains...and when you can hang with most of them....You have reached the place of being pretty dang good flyer.

Dweebs....they are always the other guy.

If you are using the spit 16 for Turn N Burn only, I would recommend that you try another spit. The 16 doesn't turn as well as the 9, which doesn't turn as well as the 8, which doesn't turn as well as the 5. The Mk.I turns the best of all the spits, but is so under-powered and under-armed that you shouldn't bother with it in the MA. The spit 14 is perked, but don't let that fool you- it turns relatively on par with the 16.

If you are looking to TnB in a spit, I would go with the 5. Or, off a carrier, the seafire (very similar to the 5).

Don't let the idea of someone calling you a "dweeb" get to you...fly what you like.

Don't forget to try the bf109 F model.  It turns with the best of them and at slow speeds is an absolute monster.  An added bonus is the small magazine of 20 mm. so you will be forced to work on both, getting in close, and your markmanship which is the greater part of most victories out there.  Most of all have fun and the first time you get called a dweeb it will be because you just flamed some chumps butt low and slow, in close and personal.

Jumping from plane to plane at first is common for most new players.  Best advise I think anyone will give you is find one you like and get to it know it real good for a bit.  You'll find it's alot like the NFL.  Any plane can beat another at any given time.  It's in the hands of the player.

You'll enjoy this game.

Greetings,

Hmmm, avoiding the dweeb:

Dweebfire... Spits (any)
Dweeb Lgay.... LAs (any)
Dweeb cherry picker.... Any plane with a wingman
Dweeb runner..... 51, LA (any), 47
HO Dweeb...... Hurri 2, 110, C Hog, or any time you shoot when outnumbered 3 to 1
Stick stirring Dweeb..... LA, Niki, Zero (any)
etc . . . . . .

Seems to me, no matter what ya fly, if you win the engagement, you're  always the 'dweeb'.  Turn off 200 and have fun.

Personally, I still looking for the help file that explains when it is okay to shoot at people. . . . . . . till then, I shoot at all the red 'uns!

Regards,

Btw, someone has to say it sooner or later...

The Zero IS the Zeke, so don't go feeling bad about not being able to tell the difference between the two. ;)
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

If you like cartoon airplanes, you're a dweeb. Period.

That being said, you might as well be a dweeb flying a plane you like.

I've been doing this for over ten years in various sims and until very recently my primary ride was always some form of Spit or another.

I also like to T'n'B and I've found theres a whole list of planes that do that better than a Spit XVI (F4F-4, FM2, Hurri, NIK, Spit V, KI and others).

Fly what you like and get comfortable and good with it.  Spit XVI is a great ride because it B'nZ's as well as it T'n'B's and most of the true T'n'B planes are slow.

And remember, you are only a Dweeb to the guy that just lost to you.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.
