I've been trying out other aircraft, p38, a couple 109's, some F4's, hurris, typhoon, to name a few, all in the hopes of finding one I like as much as the spit. To me the spit is just a damn sexy aircraft, never mind that it flies well and has excellent weaponry.

I prefer to turn rather than BnZ (especially since I learned how easy it is to avoid a BnZ'er). I like to get in close where my craptastic gunnery might actually land a hit or two.

I'm not really gung-ho on the japanese planes, probably because I cant tell a zero from a zeke. But I'd be willing to try one out for a few weeks if the majority of the suggestions lean that way.

So I'm asking, aside from the spit 16 and the la 7, which planes should I be taking a closer look at?

You should be taking a look at all of them.

If your hooked and you want to be a better virtual fighter pilot you will take this little piece of knowledge under advisment:

Start at the top of the fighter list with the A6m,fly each plane as you go down the list for 1 week each.By the end of that week you'll know the positives & Negatives of that aircraft & you'll know how to fight it in the sky's when you come across one.

Knowing what the other guy's plane does & Doesn't like to do makes a lot of difference in the middle of a fight.

I prefer to leave 200 on, it's downright amusing. I agree with what most of these people are sayin. Being a Dweeb means you're having fun. I'm a dweeb and really don't care(but I was before I ever even heard of this game). My advice is simple. Respect other players, them when they own you or when you happen to win a good fight. Keep a positive mindset and just have fun...that's why you're playin right? I love spits and I love all the american carrier rides. I calll some of my Squaddies Niki dweebs...not because they are really dweebs, but they are really good in those crates(I personally can't stand the niki) And it's a joke to me to call them a dweeb as I'm flying around in a spixteen. There is alot of sarcasm around here so don't sweat it when someone calls you a dweeb. I believe in treating others how I want to be treated, and if someone starts ripping me for something, I leave it alone(silence annoys them more than anything) and use the good ole squelch option. There are some chest thumping idiots that can never get shot down without making some excuse, but they are outnumbered by alot of really good people by far. Just play the game and enjoy it.

I am rather proud of my dweeb moniker.  Mine is polished and kept clean.  That's important to me.

Personally, I like to fly the F4U's.  They can be fast to "run away" from the horde, etc. when flying alone but are much more agile than a P51.  The plane can be flown as a BnZ, or TnB.  It's nice to have options, I think.

The La7 along with the Spitfires have gotten a bad reputation because they are often flown by newer players.  In the hands of an experienced player they are very dangerous.  Both planes can be readily beaten by better tactics and exploiting their weaknesses while using the strengths of the plane you fly.  You can find these strenghts/weaknesses by flying and fighting in the arena, or by doing some research on this bbs and associated web sites.

You must embrace your dweebery... pick a plane, find its strengths, read the pilots manual, fly it often if not always.  Learn to fly the plane to its limits.  The TA is a good place to practice 'edge of the envelope' flying and can help with gunnery using the LCS.

But what is most important.... have fun.  After all, this is just a game.

Malta

be a dweeb............ but more importantly be your own dweeb.

Dont be defined by the BS merchants who write here (me included).

You will soon come to realise that.............

1) Head ons are either very stupid tactics or the last and only chance of the desparate.

2) Cherry picking is either  (at worst) using your co countrymen as bait or (at best) dispatching an enemy who is poorly equiped to defend him/her self

3) Vulching is basically padding your kill count. The only competition is against other vulchers.

However dont let the above stop you enjoying yourself.............

Well again a post that wont make me popular.  This is a game, you are here to have fun.  The way I have fun is flying a plane on the edge of out of control and trying to kill the guy with the red letters!!  If he shows you his nose, blow it off!  If you are flying near a runway and he ups, kill him before he can take off.  If he is trying to run from the fight because he is damaged, chase him down and dont let him land!  The object is to kill the other guy and take all the bases you can and win the war!  Fly the plane you like and fly it the way you want.  What other people say about you makes no difference.  The only time people call you names is after you shoot them down.  If you die, and you will, just up and go at them again.  Have fun.  Its your money, if your not having fun then spend that money somewhere else!!

P.S.  The reason I say kill him before he can take off is this:  Most times he is not the only enmy there!  The more you let up in the air the more there are to get on your six, or HO you, or Vulch you.    Just enjoy the game the way you enjoy it and let the rest talk!!

This is an ok way to fly, and to present yourself if you don't want the respect of a lot of the people in this game.  Personally, IMO, one of the best aspects that this game has to offer is the friendships made.  It's hard to find people who want to fly with you when you conduct yourself in such a manor, not to mention what your reception will be like if you ever decide to switch countries.  If you are just starting out, my advise would be to ignore the above post altogether, because there is more to be gained from this game than just kills, rank, and destruction.

To address the origional question, fly what you like.  It's very difficult to find a plane that will suite your flying style, which will change as you evolve in this game.  Lots start out flying the LA, or Spixteen, and for good reason.  They have a lot of attributes that you need when you first start out.  My best advise would be, join missions when they're posted.  This gives you an opportunity to try something a little out of your element, and to have help while doing it.  You might just find something that you really like that you might not have tried on your own.

Most of all, HAVE FUN!!!

Fly what you like and to hell what they think.
Yup spit IX is a dweeb ride. :lol :lol

Handful that can out turn it but a watermelon load that out run it.
So if you choose to stay and fight one , you were bested by a better pilot.

Period end of story.

The only sure fire way to avoid the 'dweeb' moniker is to stop playing video games and avoid the Sci-Fi channel.  Generally, any StarTrek show should be avoided regardless of what channel it appears on.

You might also consider avoiding Cartoon Network as it may give you an unhealthy dependence on Crapanese animation... Or, Crapanimation as some call it.  Generally speaking if your intake of television is more than 50% animation of any kind, you're probably a dweeb.

And I know, because I'm not just a 'Dweeb' club member, I'm also the president.

(except I really do hate anime, I convulse everytime)  But I'll take all the South Park, Futurama and Family Guy they can shove down my throat.

So, you don’t want to be called a dweeb in Aces High?

It's simple actually.

Dont play Aces High.

Dweeb. ;)

Being called a dweeb no longer means (Noob) like it used to.

These days it is more an expression of ones irritation in most cases.

And in a few cases it's a friendly exchange. Heck...some have even construed is as a compliment in this twisted society.

Following the dialogue of the conversation will determine the likely meaning.

Just play on and don't sweat it. (Sticks and stones...)

You completely misunderstood Gaidin's post.

You would have a hard time finding a better team player than him, he is not a lone wolf psycho and he's making lots of friends.

What he is saying, is that the game allows you to play as you like, and therefore you should.  Short of being disrespectful to the other people playing, you can attack what you want, how you want, while driving the plane of your choice.  Nobody in this game has purchased the right to tell you what to do for 15 bucks a month.

Regardless what you think you learned from his post above, he is not a habitual vulture or HO.  But will do whatever is needed to complete the mission or the flight.  We all (every one of us in AH - so don't feed me any bull) vulch with great enthusiasm during a base capture.  And we all know how to avoid it.   I have NEVER ONCE taken down the ack at a base and heard someone on range go "Ok, but don't vulch them, because thats bad karma"... The typical response is more like "Sweet, the 'vulch light' is on, keep them from getting up while the goon gets in...  Oh, one is running out of the hanger, GET HIM"

Lets stop prolonging the myth that there is this overwhelming chivalry in AH.  Once in a while, you'll get a great dogfight with a skilled opponent one on one...  But a lot of fights are 3 on 1 nasty furballs where you are just trying to get out with your skin... And in that scenario, you me and everyone else have the same rules... If it gets in my crosshair, I'm going to shoot which ever end of it is pointed at me, because I've got 2 more to deal with and no help in sight, and they can call me an HO dweeb on 200 all they want...  I'm not gonna lay down and die.
