Have the farmer supply fuel. Biodiesel to run all diesels. Then we could save money on farmer subsidies, save 100 billion and a few lives a year securing foreign oil, collect actual income taxes from the farmers, and not have to suck in diesel fumes when we get stuck behind a bus or truck.

Really.

What will you do when the price of food skyrockets because all the corn is going into biodiesel?

While I do like cornbread it's crackers that civilized people eat with chili.

Cretins eat crackers or cornbread with chili.

You need flour tortillas ...fire toasted.

keep using corn for food.  allow farmers to grow hemp, which is a more effecient source of biomass than corn is.  use hemp for biofuel.

Ah, I see. The solution is for everyone to become a farmer.

Gotcha. That will make for interesting landscapes in our large cities.

Seriously, have you compared the amount of corn required to run all diesels on biodiesel with the amount of corn raised in the US and the amount of corn consumed as foodstuffs in the US?

The biodiesel issue has already made a significant impact on the availability of corn. Mexico has already publicised the price of corn has affected the tortilla industry. That would be the equivalent of the bread industry here in the US having to ration flour for bread. The story that was broadcast  was that it was directly due to the diversion of food corn to biodiesel.

There is only so much arable land availlable for food and other farm production like biodiesel. The demand for various bio matter for fuel will have an impact on food prices and a minimal impact on fuel usage.

Oh, I didn't know you could only use corn

Ethanol could leave the world hungry

Generally sums up the situation although it focuses on ethanol in this particular article.

Quote
...The grain required to fill a 25-gallon SUV gas tank with ethanol, for instance, could feed one person for a year. If today's entire U.S. grain harvest were converted into fuel for cars, it would still satisfy less than one-sixth of U.S. demand.

there are american farmers bein given subsidies when there isn't enough to grow...let them grow corn....start growin corn in colombia and peru to offset the farmers growing coca...grow corn in afghanistan to offset the farming of opium (which has has increased exponentially since the US invasion).....keeping our planet alive is important...you need a planet in order to have humans to eat the corn!!!

and why use SUV's as an example???thats ignorant...you use vehicles with better gas mileage...If your so vain that you need a status symbol over bein morally responsible, then eat the gasoline....

And you're so dim as to realize that SUV's aren't just a "vehicle" for some people.
