Wether to have weather?

I think weather would be a nice addition, but within reason.

Don't try to recreate the typhoon Halsey blundered into, but I can see fog, hazy conditions, overcast skies... as additions to the war arenas..... similar to the dawn and dusk sun we get.  Occasional, gradual change.  Bring winter snow tiles to the war arenas too.  That would be nice.

Can you see flying with a thick overcast cloud cover at 10 to 15K?  Or on a winter tiled map with ground fog?

I would not go as far as precipitation.  Too memory intensive for some players.

Well, if they used some nice thick fog there would be no need for much detail in the terrain.

:)

Nope.  It's a game that simulates air and ground combat between players using World War II aircraft and ground vehicles.  This game is not a simulation of World War II.

Strayed or evolved?

These type games tend to take on a life of their own, players molding it into what it is.

Developers can make changes and nudge it the way they think it should go, but ultimately the subscribers push it in a definate direction, whether it agrees or disagrees with the developers intended path.

So I would say it is evolution rather than strayed.

Much like the old MA, the era of pure furballers has long gone and replaced by people who want a more immersive type game covering all aspects.

While your new evolution might define you and your squad Kev, I personally feel it is a sad state that the game evolved as you put it, from a place where individuals could pit their ACM skills, knowledge of aircraft strengths and weaknesses and combat tactics against each other in air combat, to a game that is more about dropping bombs and taking undefended territory.

Honestly that is not more immersive to me it is quite the opposite and less immersive.

This thread is a perfect example.  Your squad mate isn't looking for upgrades to make the fighting better, he is looking for upgrades to make the environment more interesting while flying bombs around from target to target.

Anyone solely interested in the fight could care less if it is sunny all the time or not.  We don't look for variety in environment we look for variety in competitors and fights.

In one breath you say pure furballing or fighters predominantly fighting each other is long gone, then you say this new type of game play that has replaced it covers all aspects.  Well if Furballing is long gone, then your new improved type of game play does not cover all aspects.  And that in a nut shell is what is so sad about this current community and the state of this game.

I like the idea of having weather.  It would be cool to be in a bomber and be able to have a chance at avoiding fighter(s) by ducking into a cloud bank....stuff like that.  In biographies I've read from WWII pilots, ducking into clouds when in trouble wasn't all that uncommon.
Also, it would be cool if a cv fleet in danger of being detected/attacked could duck into a rain squall....tanks rolling up to targets in a fog bank... sounds like fun stuff.

IMO.    :)

Or having cloud cover that obscures the bomber's target, forcing him to pick an alternative target.

Perfect example -
GV war has become more important, why else would they bother updating the terrain?
Certainly not for prettier views from the cockpit.

There is so much more to AH now than pure air quake, OK you don't like it, thats fine.
But may as well face it that your in a shrinking breed, the days of 50 odd players all interested in one single aspect have gone, vanished.
May as well get used to it.

I don't think my squadmate even mentioned bombs.

As for sad, depends on your point of view.
For the vast majority who play more than one aspect of the game, it is far from sad.

Nope it's not AH1, nope it isn't what it used to be, thats the way things go.

[edit] Should add - The environment is now a very important part of the game, hence the improved terrain.
Only makes sense IMO to try and do the same upgrades to the air environment. Be it, fog, clouds, whatever.
If it was supposed to stay a pure furballing game we wouldn't have, buffs, GV's, base captures.
