err if freedom is underage sex, and pre-teens messing around with each other....then I don't won't that kind of freedom for my kids....

you lot must think a couple of twelve year olds are completely unable to damage someone elses kids...if my twins pulled this kind of rubbish they wouldn't be sitting down for a year

Growing up in America must be a lot of fun. Now I understand why you have so many school shootings.

Like john said.. I did not keep track of statistics, but the girls were as bad as us boys.

With all due respect to you dmf, what you say sounds just like what muslim friends (boys) used to say (repeat) about their female relatives, no matter their age, experience, social standing; all that mattered was furthering the traditions to a tee, as passed on to them, not if they made sense... Italians' "sticking to their own", Muslims' same..
See where this leads to?

I certainly never flirted for long with any girl that didnt want to.. there was no interest in it.  They were boring.
I knew a good time when I saw it, grabbed it and ran with it.. most of us did.
In fact I'm pretty sure we were very normal.  The screwed up kids were, for example, the ones overly restricted, who actually couldn't resist breaking their boundaries.

I mean, look at me today.. I'm so fair, I only think that I could have thieved a wallet minutes after giving it in to Lost&Found.  I strive for fairness in relationships even at my own cost...  I don't contribute to relatives and acquaintances' self-damaging, and if, in conflict, the opponents need my help to fight their best.. then it's done.

edit- I thought about it, and I think I see what your beef with all this is.
You're thinking about this from an adult's perspective.  We weren't adults. "sex" was just a word adults hushed about, I remember noticing that word real easily in newspapers and TV program magazines.. it was a mysterious thing :D.
We were like adam and eve before they ever "realized" being naked was "bad".  We enjoyed free fruits in the garden, effort in PE, and good food, good games and everything the same way: it just felt good, and right.
I do think this is one of those things like guns in the US.  Guns wouldn't work anywhere else, and I do think those days couldn't have happened as they did if it weren't us, living it there and then.
I mean other kids such as yours or Tronski's, for ex. (no offense, again), would not have handled it well.

In any case we had a great time, and a few of us did see each other again years later... we got away with any condemnation then, and today is too late for punishment :p

ok I must be missing something really important here because after reading the first few lines it sounds to me like your comparing me to a muslim, on the grounds that I don't want my 5 year old knowing or learning about sex until shes ready.
Heres a bit of info  about the US, its not generally acceptable to go around touching private areas of children, even if your a child yourself. People go to prison over that subject

Oh and please don't compare me to a muslim, pick something higher on the civilization scale.

Ok, first, I know it's malicious, but I sort of let you run on the assumption that I implied we had sex, and it you ran with it (I don't see why it would justify your reaction if we had, anyway).
We just did a lot of cuddling; hotdog+donut mechanics were lost on us. I only found out about that a few years later.
The closest thing to obscene that we got to was an intense attraction to each others' warmth and softness (is this corny enough yet?).. is that taboo?  Too erotic?  Even kitten and piglets show the same impulses.. Are you really of the opinion that it's unnatural?
My point was to show that, like I said, you're seeing what I'm saying through the eyes of an (above most protective) adult, that's concerned about preserving a kid's innocence... So tell me what it is in what I've said that violated it?  My point was exactly to say how innocent that time was, sheltered fruit gardens and all.

Second, can I assume you typed faster than you considered what you meant, pigeonholing a sizeable portion of the planet's population to some vaguely bigotted caricature because their religion happens to be the present Evil du jour?

Bandwagon argument.
Long story short, it's a matter of culture shock, which you've surely noticed accounts for endless arguments about, for example, guns in the USA vs. guns in almost anywhere else in the world.
Italians, for example, have this very famous romantic quality - but make no mistake, the sort of things we lived that I meant to translate into text when I referred to them in those small anecdotes, is exactly that sort of quality, which as it happens, just does not happen in the US.
Just like the US "forbids" naked anatomy on pharmaceutical advertisement, etc.  Arguing that would be just as absurd.

You've read 1984?
Like I said, we did all we did consensually, after knowing each other for a long while.. it was really sweet.. no one got hurt.. some adults screeched repression in some sort of moral turmoil we had never seen before when they "caught" us all bundled in each others bedsheets.. And to this day I still laugh at how nevrotic and off topic that reaction is.

But anyway, we knew what we wanted, and some bitter, acrid, tired old overseers who obviously had no idea how happy and in love we were, were not going to spoil it for us.

moot, it happened/happens in the USA, we as children did not tell the adults about it, because like all fun things that kids do (like swimming in the river) they would just get upset.

Well I guess you're not one to give up having the last word, and don't care to see things thru others' eyes.
I'll respect that.

Just as well. I have a feeling you wouldn't be welcome; at least not with your sentiments.

Sorry moot but when your a mother you tend to be a little defensive about who does what to your child.
