I don't think I really fit into either description, but rather both.
I fly the corsair because it has been my favorite plane since childhood. When I first started this game, I sucked in it, and I attributed that to the plane (it obviously couldn't have been my skill). Now I see that it is likely the best plane in the game. I still fly it because it is the "coolest" by far. The German planes are ugly, as are most of the British planes. The spit is alright I guess, but doesn't hold a candle to the Hog. I don't want to fly ugly planes.
I always try to win the fights I'm in. I always try to keep the other guy from shooting me down. That more or less means that returning to base and landing kills is the logical outcome. If I die, it means I failed in my basic goal, which is to win. How many people play this game with a goal of getting beat? Saying I don't care if I win or lose, at least in my eyes, is a lie or an excuse.
I try to maximize the best features of my plane, while forcing my opponent to fly in ways he is not utilizing his plane to its fullest. If he is a better turner, I will probably start out with some speed, since he'll want to turn 'n burn. For him to complain about my greater speed advantage (whether I use it to extend, BnZ, E-fight, or whatever...) is as idiotic as it would be if I complained because he turns tighter corners than me. For a low TnB plane to complain about getting zoomed is as dumb as the BnZ plane complaining because the TnB plane turned out of his gun solution.
It takes two to pick. A picker, and a pickee. All the pickee needs to do is look back once in a while, and dodge. Some of my easiest kills are higher cons thinking I will be an easy pick. Also, some of my most rewarding kills start out with me low and slow verses a high con. I look at a picker as someone who doesn't know he's in trouble yet. SA will defeat the picker. An error in SA may get you killed minutes later. I've been picked countless times. It was always my fault.
My sorties start with a 9-12k climb headed towards a fight. My flight will generally start with some higher alt E-fights, and progress lower and slower, into some on the deck turn fights. I then extend out and climb again to repeat. If I see some easy picks, I'll take 'em. I have a regular job that pays well, but if I see a $20 on the floor I'll still pick it up. Killing bombers fits into my description of picking.
I prefer fighting at the 6-12k heights. In my opinion, those fights are more interesting than rollin' around in the dirt. More variety of speeds, more 3-dimensionality, and more opportunity to fly "smarter" than your opponent. Everybody who starts playing this game has a concept of the TnB fighting. Some never progress beyond it. I see E-fighting as a higher form of fighting, requiring more thought or "smarts". Using your brain to beat an advantaged "better" plane, or "better" opponent, is really the ultimate win, at least IMO.
