Senate Signals Support for Iraq Timeline

Three months after Democrats took power in Congress, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the moment was at hand to "send a message to President Bush that the time has come to find a new way forward in this intractable war."

Seems they do not even know the difference between forward and backward now ... the dems must think retreating in defeat is " a new way foward".

bush will veto it , and they don't have the votes to override the veto.

so it is all political posturing for the 2008 elections.

Theres ALways a good reason to do that--but it's moot to say we oughtn't have gone in--we leave, and many good people will get slaughtered, and Iraq will become another Lebanon--an Iranian proxy

A strong plurality of participants in a UPI-Zogby International poll views the congressional Democrats' plan for a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq very unfavorably.

Democrats have drawn up legislation on funding for the war in Iraq that includes a plan to have the U.S. military out of Iraq by September 2008. U.S. President George Bush, who also has problems with other sections of the bill, has promised to veto the measure if it passes in the Senate.

While a total of 46.8 percent of those asked were either "very favorable" (20.8 percent) or "somewhat favorable" (26 percent) of the Democrats' plan, 40.2 percent -- the largest percentage for a single choice -- gave an answer of "very unfavorable" and 8.8 percent were "somewhat unfavorable."

While 74 percent of Republicans viewed the plan before the U.S. Congress "very unfavorably," 43.3 percent of Democrats were in the "somewhat favorable" and 38.9 percent were in the "very favorable" camps.

The Zogby interactive poll of 4,824 U.S. residents was conduced March 14-16 and has a margin of error or 1.4 percentage points.

You people cant seriously entertain the idea the idiot liars that got us into this disaster can actually fix it? Is one party going to suddenly get a 1st time ever injection of competence?

The repubs and Dems are just too stupid, petty, incompetent and consumed with serving their party masters to come up with any reasonable plan that has a hope in hell of succeeding.

Lets not forget the fact that a perceived "US / Zionist / Jew" (whatever rhetoric) installed puppet govt in Iraq that will be doomed to fail, especially now that Irans traditional enemy is gone and they have plenty of time & money to screw things up.

This will be no different than our first failed experiment in bringing democracy to the middle east, aka 'the shaw'. And thanks to the anarchy we brought to Iraq anti govt forces can thrive in that area forever and be a thorn in every-ones sphincter.

By the way, would you be any different if some foreign troops came stomping in, ruined your quality of life, probably killed some friends or arrested others with no charges, trial or due process while they rotted in a place like Abu Ghraib? you know that US troops routinely kick in doors, search houses and with no warrants.. would you stand for foreign troops doing this to you? at your house?

I appreciate why our guys have to do this and I agree they should be allowed to do so since it will save US troops lives, but I'm bias.. if it was my home, friends and life being violated for years on end while a bunch of idiot politicians 1/2 across the world bickered as I suffered, I'd start taking some of them out myself.

The Dems lost all credibility when they attached all that pork to that bill. Please dear God let there be a viable third-party candidate in 2008.
