After playing with my nVidia controls for a while, I got a color, contrast, and gamma setting I can live with in the game. Haven't played a long session to see what the effects will be as far as tired eyes or headache yet.
MOST of what was done I like.
* Oceans color is close to what you would find in the North Atlantic. Won't look good at all in PTO or MTO maps though. So: Win-Lose.
* The gun pits and beaches and beach obstacles all look good and nice addition.
* The thick pine forests are also well done, along with their ground vegetation. They look a lot like some forest expanses that can be found in the Colorado Rockies.
* The fires and smoke at strat factory seem different, but better the other night I attacked one.
* hedgerows and especially the new look of the trees are good.
Negative:
The broad, wide, bland, stark, nearly empty dull, dark green expanses between everything else. Too dark. Too empty. No more barns for GV's to hide it and take shelter. No more overhead cover for GV's. No more villages, farms, haystacks, or copse of trees scattered about. Nothing to denote barren ground, rock, clay, or signs of civilization. No roads or rails (other than drone convoy routes). No bridges (other than drone convoy route). No rivers or streams.
All you see there now is the occasional tree, a couple sheep, and a windmill. And a lot of green. Seems to be a step back from "realism" for game immersion. I've flown many times, and have never seen the ground look anything like that from the air.
But, maybe it was done that way for performance and frame rate reasons.
