Do YOU want the Terrain CHANGED?
« on: April 13, 2007, 10:48:56 AM »
Edited as no punting is allowed here:

The terrain is not acceptable at current, and I unfortunately will quit if this is not resolved as I can not see paying for displeasure.  Here are my points .

1. It causes headaches.

2. NO depth perception.  You can't see hills on approach or while fighting low, or you have to focus too much on this.

3. It looks like a cheesy arcade game now.  Before, there was SOME semblance of reality. Now it looks NOTHING like when you are really flying.  At first I was impressed by varying terrain (fields, farms etc) - Lately all I've seen is bushes and forests (green blots and green blogs)

4. You can barely if at all, see cons low.  And shft f4 results in seeing nothing but a blog low on the ground when you are just too low to do anything about it.
Our group dropped paras last night, I flew a circle around a port and couldn't see a darn thing.

*On a side note, I am not seeing all of the explosions.  Planes are disappearing and I believe planes seem to be warping more-so now but these are just my personal gripes*

I'm still not really sure what this patch did other than change the terrain.  At first I was excited to have a change, and expected that after dawn or night it was going to look SO much better...

Then I realized it WAS the middle of the day and this is how it looked.  I have not had the displeasure of having to fly at night, evening, morning in this game but I can't imagine wanting to do anything but logging when this comes around.

Please sign this with your reasons.  I do not believe this constitutes punting at that point.

I love the way the new runways look, and the short line and ESPECIALLY the curvature of the earth!

But, it's a moot point if I can't fly where 50% of the battle is going on, near the ground.  I have a headache just thinking of it.  No joke!

I like it, I think its great.

I'm particularily entertained by those on vox who rant and rave about it, threatening to "quit" if HTC doesn't bow to their demands.

Frankly, I'm usually one of the first ones to complain and this new version looks awesome to me ;)

Here's a kooky idea...rather than stirring the peasants with pitchforks and torches, have you emailed HTC direct and discussed your problems?

im still hundreds of miles from my computer and the 1980's model dial up crapmachine im on is about unable to do anything other than browse the internet badly so till tonight I have no way of knowing what the game actually looks like now.

what I am interested to know is what the new structure and landscape of the 3d terrain looks like now. if its realistic and more sparse and European looking on cover with nice low sloping hills and realistic 3d details. then the changes are most welcome in spite of any teething difficulties with texture blandness and the whole dark night world at noon problem.

you know this isnt the first time this dark world problem has shown up and it ussually shows up at drastic engine or terain changes markedly the beggining of AH2 was plagued by the dark world syndrom where everything was so dark and dreary and disgusting that it was revolting being forced into it when ah1 went to AH2 forever. but it was eventually corrected as I am sure any problems with this version will be.

think in terms of groundwork and framing when it comes to these terrain issues. if everything is looking really good underneath the textures in terms of 3d modelling and realsim it will be much more likely that either HTC or members of the AH community will update the textures to either an acceptable level...

or to somthing that might knock your socks off and make you say... damn this rocks.

time will tell :D
Fester was my in game name until September 2013

I like it.

A question about the headaches........ I'm not doubting you, but do you get headaches from other activities on your computer, or just AH?

Seriously, I've never gotten a headache from a computer or computer game.

I like it also.

The only problem I'm having right now is the depth perception. I think it's something I just have to adjust to.

I haven't got headaches from a AH, but i'm a graphic designer and the screens will sometimes cause my astigmatism to give me really bad headaches. Didn't even know i had it till i got into school and started doing this kind of work. Glasses really help.

I could see it happening, but the funny thing is the darker colors are easier on my eyes.

No headaches here but but can't see the contour of the landscape or visually estmate distance to the ground either.  The old terrain was better in my opinion.  If I find myself augering too often because of this I may  find something else to do with my free time.   I suspect, however, that it will eventually be worked out so we have the best of the old and the new.  As for e-mailing HTC, I suspect they monitor these forums.

Give them a chance to get it sorted out, enough of us have requested that they do something about the shading to add back the depth perception. I'm sure they are working on it or will be soon.

Give it time. They'll tweak it. I like it overall and think Hitech continues to work hard to improve all aspects of their game even though all of us, including me, may not totally agree with everything they do in the immediate aftermath of a change. I have absolutely no doubt that they don't wish to drive subscribers off. To consciously do so would be to cut their own throats. The only thing I'm having a problem with, as others have stated, is depth perception. But again give 'em time, they'll fix it. They can't do everything overnight. They don't have the resurces. They do pretty well for a small outfit in my estimataion.
