Vulch pff I HOed him.:D   Guppy my comment about the setup turning into Spitaly is true. Every time theres a setup with a spit in it once people die in other planes they run to the easymode spits. Its no fun geting ganged by spits all week thats why I resorted to my HOtarding.

That may be, but we were all flying 38s when the comment was made.  There may have been 1 Spit flying.

I'll admit I was surprised when you HO'd my 38.  I wasn't expecting it in the AvA.

They had been some really great fights, not real high, no real picking and great fun.  The guys fighting were enjoying it and no one was griping, but just having fun.

But then all of a sudden the crowd was way up there coming down in a bunch and it became just another MA bit.

As for Spits.  Personally I could care less if a Spit is in any set up.  I do note in just about every AvA setup the complaints start right away before it even goes and that as a general rule it appears that the Spits that make it in are not even the ones that fit historically.   You'd have the IX and VIII in this set up historically, but all the set up has is a 1941 Spit V with half the cannon load that a Spit Vc would have had during the time of the set up.

Killing Spits is fun.  i take great pleasure in eating them up in the LWA in my 38G.   I just can't worry about what the other guy flies.  I just try and have fun in what I fly.

I rarely fly a post 1943 bird as the 38G is my ride of choice.  If I get in a Spit its usually an 8 and thats to fight against the horde in a base defense as the 38G sometimes just doesn't work well with the wheels barely off the ground.

But again I can't worry about the other guys ride other then beating it if I can.

The beauty of the fights early tonite in AvA for me was it was all about the fight, and not about landing kills or scorewhoring, or chest thumping.  It was fun.  We didn't have to climb to 15K just to get close.  We were coming to the fight at 2-3K and that was plenty.

That's what the AvA could be all the time, and if it ever got there, it would draw in a lot of guys thinking the same.

Then for whatever reason it became about advantage, and alt, instead of having at it.  That's the LWA.  If that's all the AvA is on a smaller scale, then the appeal is gone.  It was too bad because as soon as it changed tonite, my guys from the 80th said the same thing.  If this is all it's gonna be, we might as well go back to the LWA.

Sorry for the soapbox, but it was hard to see the guys I fly with go from really enjoying what seemed to be something more like we enjoy to disappointed in the same old bit.

Well I started out flying the 109G2 then for about 5 sorties in a row I got jumped by hurris 38s spits and P40s. After that The gloves came off....I wasnt just ganna keep geting ganged and picked all night so I got in my 110G and started blowing planes outa the sky. It was one of the only times that I just come in on any red plane I saw. I didnt care if there were 3 guys on him I came in and tatered him right back to the tower. I said it was turning into spitaly right after that when I started seeing more and more spits in the air, and then seen three spits on one poor low 109. I down right hate spits. Never did never will, and I will bet you by the end of the week you'll be only a hand full of guys in something other then spits. To counter this LW will have to get alt so then allied flyers will get alt and so on and so on. Next thing you know 20k spits hording 109s.

Guess we were seeing different things then.  It was often 2 v 3 or 3 v 2 with dots inbound for me.

I liked the shortened icon range as it made me work harder at the SA bit.

There were 4 of us in 38s to start, but Soulyss had to leave so i was Shuffler, Vast and I in 38s.  1Duke1 was in one for a bit as was Oldman.

We had someone called Do in a 38 who clearly didn't know what was going on as he was shooting at the green guys.  LTARget was in a 38 for a bit, then a 40 i think.

I didn't see one Spit until I heard 1Duke1, who had switched say I'd double teamed him with a Spit.  he wasn't mad, it was just a comment.  But I hadn't seen the Spit above us and had come up from below and shot his 190 (I think it was a 190)

So I never actually saw a Spit up, only heard about 1.

The mid evening 109/202/205 fights against the 38s were great fun for the reasons I mentioned earlier.  The only picker was ShaunB, again in a 110 coming down while others were turning with each other.

And if the Spits are en masse, I'd be more then happy to get my old Emil of my doom and have at it against em, cause it's fun :)

btwn the axis hoing. the gangs and the cherry picking -  the spit is about the only allied ride in this setup if you plan on landing ur sortie

it would be better without the spit as most setups are but it would also be better if every 190 did not head on with guns blazing or if every decent a2a when you are in a p40 or p38 was not interrupted by cherry picking gangsters ... so all it leaves is the spit .. and the hot shower you need to feel clean after you fly in one for a sortie or two :)

I honestly don't get the griping.  I started the evening Axis and saw more P-38s than Spits.  After the sides got very unbalanced toward the Axis, I switched over to Allieds and still saw mostly P-38s.  Without friendly Icon IDs, it isn't always easy to tell what a single-engined plane is (case in point, Guppy thought I was in a P-40, but I was actually bouncing between the Hurri I and Hurri IIc.), but the fork-tailed devil is very easy to pick out.  And it was everywhere.

If, for sake of argument, there were a lot of Spits, so what?  Are you saying it is just no fun unless you have the advantage?

As for the HOing, I can sympathize with Dan/Guppy/Corky's desire to have a different flavor in the AvA.  But the fact remains that we have some who will always HO, some who will never HO, and others that do or do not based on what they experience.  I think I HOed three planes all evening.  One was Truekill's 110 after he announced he was in a 110 and was HOing everyone.  (I actually had a good laugh at the minor whining that came out afterwards . . . "I didn't think you would do that!" "But you said . . . " "But I didn't mean it!" etc.).  I think the second was also Truekill, this time in his 109, after I heard the first pings of him firing at me.  The third was Easycore.  He was in a 110 and I mistook him for Truekill.  :p  But I was on the receiving end of many many other HOs from LW pilots . . . oddly enough, more happened when I was in the Hurri I.     So all sides do it, no one is immune . . . shrug it off and up another plane.

Ganging?  Also happening on both sides.  The difference was, some people (especially early) were saluted for holding on so well against odds and saluted back . . . others said "serves you right" or griped about being on the receiving end.  The actions were the same, but the reactions varied widely.

Bottom line, the mudslinging about who HOed who, who picked who, who was ganging and in what aircraft, blah blah blah is all pretty silly IMO.  I thought the point was to fight and have fun.  This I managed to do.  A little friendly banter now and again can also be enjoyable.  But if you are going to whine and stamp your feet, then do yourself a favor and quit taking it so seriously.  You will have a lot more fun yourself and keep the atmosphere more enjoyable for others.

LOL I was thinking about that last night.

I went back to LWA for a bit and towards the end of the night I couldn't ever get my 38 up to speed or even a couple thousand feet of alt before i was getting mugged.

Out of frustration I upped a Spit 16 because it was the only thing i could get moving enough to give me a chance against higher birds in a horde.

It made me wonder about which came first.  The Spit or the higher picking hordes because Eagler's right.  It is about the only thing that gives you any hope against that kind of mob.

Actually, I did "Blam" you -- twice as a matter of fact.

But I don't blame you for HOing.  :aok   Like I was saying, it is just a matter of knowing some people do it, and accepting the fact, and moving on.

Well, this idea of taking Spitfires away from history brings me very sad memories...

But I understand very well this contained rage against Spitfires. When a 109G2 is outmanouevered and shot to pieces by a Spitfire V, these feelings are very understandable...And when the Spit V is co-alt, it even hurts more...It's quite understandable...Come on, how is this possible? A very old model shooting down a much modern one?! It can only be overmodelled, or we face hacking, for sure!

Ban the Spitfire! Ban the P38! Ban the Hurricane! They are all uber-planes of death, they chew K's and Doras for breakfast! Ban every plane but the 109, 190 and 110!

And especially, ban whoever shoots me down, too!

It's understandable...

SInce when is flying a 109 hard? And since when is fighting a Spit in a 109 not fun? Maybe I'm weird.
