This is not a bug. There is something wrong with your system.

Using custom sounds?

Using onboard sound card?

Some system specs would help.

This sounds like a classic resource issue.  A pause like that is the computer having to stop and load a sound or other resource, as there is not enough free RAM to keep it in memory all the time.

Need the DXDIAG output.
How many processes are running in background?  Should be between 19 and 21 on a Windows XP system.

When the computer is idle, what does the Task Manager show for CPU usage under the "Processes" tab.  It should be bouncing between 0 and 1 (occasionally 2) perecnt like a heartbeat.

Actually I have a similar problem........

Not so much as "warping", but a frame drop (stuttering?). I usually get around 50-60 frames cruising, down to maybe 35 if many cons, fires, smoke, clouds etc.

I can do all ACMs without any problem, however the instant I start firing, my frame rate drops to 15-20, went down to 10 during testing if I fired for more than 2-3 seconds continuously. Can't figure it out.

One other thing, when I was in a mossie, I got the same problem if I fired the 30cals, but could fire 20mms all day without any frame drop. Led me to think its got something to do with the muzzle flahes or smoke emmissions. Tried disabling weapon effects, vehicle effects, terrain effects, moved sliders to max perfromance and min range......the works.....same problem. What gives?

Ideas anyone?

run DXdiag in windows, and reduce your level of hardware acceleration for sounds. I would try that first.

it can be sound related , as you get in close your adding more sounds running at a time .

my bain was the check 6 sound ,,, it would freeze me everytime if i was firing my guns at the same time ... solution was to turn the sound off for ck 6 and the stall buffet noise.

Nope, didn't work. Tried all different audio acceleration settings, tried game with sounds muted .

I usually fly the P38, I tested the different settings by firing whilst sitting on the runway. Each time when I fire the 50cals my frame rate drops from 59 down to eventually 14. Interestingly enough when firing the 20mm it only causes a drop to 40.

Still lost:huh
