Can anyone explain this?
« on: August 04, 2007, 09:36:19 AM »
Two screenshots taken from the film viewer, about 2 seconds apart.

I know the viewer doesnt capture everything but I still cant explain how this occured.

I'm in a Yak T HO'ing the 51 with 37mm just out of picture.

I see one ping on his port wing -

then see his starboard wing drop off -

Pretty sure he had no previous battle damage as he wafted over field at 13k with 6k alt advantage over the only red guy in the area i.e. me, but didnt engage until I was flying in ever decreasing circles chasing a spit 16.

Clearly the cannon round traveled through the wing through the fuselage and ended up exploding in the right wing.  :lol

Only thing I can think of is maybe lag?  Perhaps in your film and on your game screen when playing his was left 20 feet more on his computer and when the hit response registered on his computer it sent info back to the server saying right wing damage while your computer showed left wing damage.

Im sure it is lag too, but the question I have is... ummm  What difference does it make? I mean, the guy lost a wing and went down didn't he?:huh

Heheh :) That would explain it but I thought it worked slightly differently in that my FE sends all the info via the server to the other player?

So in this case my FE sends 'you have just been hit in the port wing with 37mm, for you the war is over' to his FE and it reacts accordingly?.

Fugitive yeah, it all ended well except I nearly collided with a wing that from my perspective, shouldn't have been there.

I agree its all been a bit different since the last update.

That would be my guess. Lag can do some funny things. I've hit wingtips and seen the plane explode like I'd hit the pilot, and I've hit the tail and seen the engine start smoking.

I've also had the damage issue me a pilot wound with no holes on the fuselage, and start an oil or radiator leak, then when I land theres no holes anywhere near where any related systems would be.

Just be glad it actually registered the damage someplace :)

It might be that the "shot" info hits a certain place and time in the "vitual world", instead of the "port wing" of such and such an aircraft. That way by the time your FE info get to the other players machine his FE says he was a bit more to the left and so send the "starboard wing off" info from his FE.

Luckily you can't take damage from parts off or other planes, but the noise scares the heck out of ya !

Looking at that last picture brings up a clue.  Notice the tracer trail on the left, lower middle of the screen.  That one seems to be coming in at a different angle, tracing it backwards puts the right wing in his guns.  Perhaps that's when you took some damage there.  It doesn't take much  wiggling around to spread those guns across a wide area.

Nothing clever here.  Please, move along.

Learn something besides HO and Run and you won't have that problem.

I'd have to agree with that 100%.  In fact, I think my renew is going to be set to manual and I'll let it go for a few months.

Moreover..

Ho'ing is ridiculous.  Even if you are NEAR the other guy , AFTER he passes you get the collision warning.

BTW - two planes collide of almost equal mass, both go boom...I think we all understand this.  Why this wasn't coded as such has me frazzled.

Alas - this game is run on the absolute bare minimum it seems.  Time to return is so long it's just insane.  The other day a p51 blew past my bomber, shot at me - 5 seconds later I hear CHACHING CRASH...and my bomber goes down while he's already 1k away.  No other planes in site.
I think this is how they actually keep subscribers though.  If evenone died in a HO there would be noone left to battle.  With the HUGE buffer they have around the aircraft and what they detect as a collision due to the server lag, I doubt anyone would be happy to die every time.  A TRUE head one is what should kill another.
I don't know how ww2online does it, but they sure have it right.  VERY fast updates in that game and when you hit something, the other guy knows VERY quickly.  Seemingly 100 faster than in this game.

Just unacceptable.  Maps that haven't been updated in ages, same old same old with no updates - yet at a premium subscription service.

Sorry , just my 2 cents.

Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.
