If you could ask God one question...
« Reply #30 on: August 14, 2007, 09:37:04 AM »
Oh... but to answer the question?

I really can't think of anything I would ask him.   I have already asked all the important questions and got what I needed out the asking.

I`ve said it here many times and will say it again. I always get a kick out of how scared some folks get over something they claim not to believe in.

There's nothing mysterious about being scared of the unknown. At the same time, admitting that something is unknown is, in itself, not an admission that something great lies behind it.

Just a thought.

I did answer the question later so as not to get lost in my long winded rant...

I can think of no question that I would ask and have already asked all the questions of him that I wanted to... I have also gotten what I needed out of the asking.

I think if I got to talk to God, it'd probably have to be an apology, not a question.:)

Lazs, I think you feel threatened by the calm, self assured lack of belief folks like me have.  Lashing out at that 'threat' is a natural reaction, but something you should be able to avoid as a thinking, rational being.

The 'intellectually dishonest' phrase you keep rolling out is as worn as the leather on my busted wallet, and about as structurally sound.  Why does lack of belief in a god irritate you so much?  Is it perhaps that you:

A: consider yourself rational
B: have a belief that can't be explained through evidence
and
C: there are other folks who, by choosing not to believe, make you worried that you may not be as rational as you think you are?

It's like the person who thinks of themself as a liberal who finds themselves talking with a communist and feels threatened by someone who has taken the belief even further.  Or a person who thinks that they're super conservative who talks to a fascist, and sees someone who's even more "extreme"?

Agnosticism is a fine, wish-washy way of saying "Well, I want to cover my bases, _just in case_".  I'm not agnostic about the Easter Bunny (I don't light a candle for him _just in case_ he exists), I just don't think it's real.  Same with teh god.

What's the difference?  And why do you lash out so much?

Chair, my take on lazs "lashing out" is this:

Boroda took a pot shot at religious people, lazs returned in kind.

I don't see it so much as lashing out, rather , calling out.

I'd ask god for a couple hundred more questions.

There's just way too much strange **** that needs to be addressed.

chair... I see it the way fb sees it.  I have no allies in religious people and rarely mention my belief.

I simply find that people who claim that "athiest" is a rational way of thinking founded in something other than pure faith is silly.

I don't mind that there are athiests.. they are welcome to their faith but... to claim it is anything but faith?

My take is.. an agnostic admits that he doesn't know and has no faith that god exists or does not.

a theist... believes there is a god.. he does so with his faith.

an atheist...  says there can be no god and he says this because he has faith that it is true even tho the possibility of a god is very high.. that it has never been disproved.

I will commend you tho...  You used to start threads attacking.. or maybe simply trying to discredit religion... and now you do not.   You saying that I am the attacker here is kind of ironic tho given that you won't even admit your faith is simply that.   Given your not so distant past practice of starting anti religion threads.

I of course... have never started a thread attacking your religion of athiesm..  I simply want you to admit that you have the faith... the calling brother of your faith... otherwise...

you are just a puffed up agnostic...

An athiest is not just a more hard core agnostic.  An athiest is the real deal... his faith gets him through...

Unlike the agnostic... he doesn't even have to think about it because... unlike an agnostic or an honest scientist... he has an unshakeable faith...

it may be the opposite faith of a theist but it is every bit as zealous and founded in faith.

Lazs: What is the name of the religion that does not believe the Easter Bunny  or Tooth Fairy exists?  By your logic, that must be a faith as well.
