the revenge kill
« on: August 22, 2007, 05:57:40 PM »
Hey all,
The revenge kill is an awesome thing.  Nothing is more satisfying than killing someone that killed you; it's especially sweet if you got killed in some BS manner.

Last night a teammate got revenge killed.  I thought it was kind of a BS thing to do, and I wanted to throw it out there to the crowd.

Me and a couple other guys flew over to an enemy base that was empty.  It was about a sector and a half flight.  We were dispersed a bit but still supporting, maybe 2-6k apart, flying about 15k up.  Anyway, eventually some bad guys started upping and we hung out until they got some altitude before we started getting into some fights.  Eventually there were 4 friendlies there including me and the bad guy dar bar just exploded.  One of my buds shot down a well-known, high rank player in a fair fight.  After the fight, he got shot up by another bad guy and we all decided to egress.  Unfortunately, based on how we all got separated during the melee, 2 of my teammates egressed to a different base than me.  I landed and then went to the tower as my buddies were a few miles out from their field.

My bud that got shot had to throttle back to keep from running out of gas on the way home- he was in a hellcat.  This well-known, high ranked player apparently re-upped a Pony, took off and flew flat out to catch my buddies RTB'ing.

Now, by the time we had left, other friendlies had flown in to the evolving furball over the enemy base and there were other guys to shoot down.  Instead, revenge guy flew a sector and a half to our friendly field to shoot my buddy down.  That in and of itself isn't so BS though.  I'd probably do it if I was mad enough.  But this guy flew a sector and a half into the field ack.  My buddy evaded his pass, although he was slow and damaged and essentially out of gas at this point.  A couple friendlies got on the high ranked guys tail and were rapidly closing, yet this guy pressed his attack and shot the tail off my buddy's hellcat on short final on his second pass, about 3 seconds before getting shot down himself.

My bud was kinda upset by this, and I tended to agree with what he said.  While there's nothing inherently unfair about what happened, I have to wonder why someone would essentially commit cartoon suicide in order to get a revenge kill.  I dunno.  I like to kill the guy that killed me as much as the next guy, but I'm not going to kill myself trying to do it.

What do you guys think?

What I think is that is the way it is.  As long as folks think that anything about being a cartoon ace matters, it will continue to happen :)

I will gladly die in any attempt to kill anyone and everyone who is trying to land kills. If they're angered by not being able to land their kills of me, it was well worth it.

I just really enjoy shooting people, most especially those who do not wish to be shot.

Hub,
Would you fly 40 game miles to shoot down somebody that beat you in a dogfight fair and square when there are other enemy aircraft much closer to engage?

Would you continue to engage that guy even knowing that you're going to die in the process?

That's my question.

No reason NOT to kill someone, but it's the lengths to which you would go to shoot down one particular person for whatever personal reason.

And my bud wasn't upset that he didn't land kills.  Perhaps upset is the wrong word.  I don't really want to say anymore than that.

I'm not suggesting what anyone did was 'wrong' or 'unfair'.  I would characterize it as 'lame' but that's just my opinion.

edit:  I see you did answer the question.  I wonder why you would get satisfaction from killing another cartoon plane while dying in the process?

Well, maybe from his point of view, someone was running away from a fight.  He was so pissed that the guy ran for a sector and a half, that he decided to just kill him out of spite even if it meant dying, too.  All depends on how you look at it...

Anyway, we get free planes to die over and over again so it doesn't really matter.

P.S.  You could have upped an La-7 and helped your friend.  Some buddy you are :P

I think I know who the mystery man is :D

Tell your buddy next time he's in that situation, just show a sign or two of life.  It should solve his problem :aok

Well Hub, as long as you're having fun, that's what counts!

I fly Bish.  I hope we meet so I can pick you in my 190 on one of your suicide runs.  It will make this whole dogfighting thing alot easier!  :aok

I killed ghi a couple of times in a BS manner back in June. We were porking a base and he kept upping.

I got him twice I think, and three others. Damned if ghi didn't follow me all the way back and shoot my butt off just as I was lowering on gear my F6F to land my 5 kills. I never saw him coming.

I figured he probably got a good laugh outta that one. Best timing and revenge kill I ever saw ghi.

I think I had a satisfying revenge kill once when I got vulched on the field.  I didn't chase the guy 50 miles, but I did single him out in the furball and was totally focused on killing him, and him only.  When I did, it was pretty sweet.

Now, if you had vulched me 5 times, that's different.  I'd probably follow you into anything to kill you.

i've had the same thing happen  before. I thik Skyrock must have channeled me cause i survied two "ubber aces", caused one to auger shot the other down. i was coasting back no fuel about to land when i noticed a LA7 on the water running me down. i had just touched down only to end up in the tower by the first guy that agured. I got a good laugh and couldn't believe someone would be that pissed or what ever it was enough to run me down and kill me before landing. :aok

Wasn't me...if that's what you were thinking--I'm hardly "well known" or a "high rank player".  Now if the pony driver had been characterized as "alt-monkey, cherry picking, ramming, HOing avacado" I'd have to fess up. :)

sounds to me like he got under your skin enuf for u to be posting on the forum. if u flew in at 15 and let these guys get a LITTLE bit of altitude, im sure the fight was anything but fair.

He probly wanted to make sure the vulch tard didnt get to land his kills;)

So what if he got him, u got to give the guy some skill credit if he managed to fly into ack with cons on his six TWICE and killed your friend, if i had been him i would have pulled some hard G manuvers threw some hangers, or did a LOOP on him and let the ack have at him. It was your freinds fault for getting himself shot down plain and simple. This guy did what he wanted to do by getting under your skin about it.

If he was a well known ace and your freind shot him down, ususally ther is some banter that ensues afterwords. There is usually more to the story than what we read here.

I chased a vulching tiff 2 sectors so he couldn't land his 6 kills.  Anyways i ended up hiting him with a 600yard tater. :p
