i am curious, is there a law that states what rate of acceleration is considered too much? And how do the police measure it?

of course the police can always use the vague and subjective "reckless driving" or "careless driving" or "too fast for conditions" or "operating a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner" or "i thought he was a bank robber".

it seems around here you can take off as fast as you want. Just don't blast the speed limit, and don't smoke your tires and you'll be fine.

Nice job Hornet.........made me giggle.......best one I've done was a while ago.......on my way home after a fishing match (off a cold beach.....lol)...pulled up to a set of traffic lights in my Calibra 4 x 4.......(quite a quick car for the UK, at the time anyway) and sit there waiting for it to change. This is at 3am btw (this is important to remember). Up alongside me pulls a little vauxhall (GMC) Nova....loud stereo, side lights, loud exhaust kinda deal. Looks across at me.....as I'm looking across at him.....I grin, he grins n nods.........both sat there reving engines........lights change, I go backwards as I've purposely selected reverse......he's so surprised he nearly dont make it round the roundabout just past the lights, and was even more surprised when I caught him up and went past waving...lol............(and yes, I laughed so much I nearly crashed....much to the annoyance of the guy getting a lift off of me....lol)......

I'd say if your leaving a trail of smoke and the car is making lane changes on it's own that might be accelerating to fast.

Negatory, section 42-4-1105
Quote
For purposes of this section, "speed contest" means the operation of one or more motor vehicles to conduct a race or a time trial, including but not limited to rapid acceleration, exceeding reasonable and prude speeds for highways and existing traffic conditions, vying for position, or performing one or more lane changes in an attempt to gain advantage over one or more of the other racing participants.
Officer decides what is too rapid, and notice the obligatory "including but not limited to..."  We did get hit with the careless driving as well, which is much better than reckless driving.  I was only going 30 in a 35 when i saw the lights turn on and slowed down though.  It's all subjective on what kind of night the officer is having I guess.

No mullet but I do have the pornstash:D   And no it's not a "compensator"

I actually use it to tow with but after almost 20 years of driving POS used trucks and stuff so my ex-wife could have a new car every 3-4 years I wanted a truck I could be proud of so I went out and got one. First truck I've ever owned that is fully loaded with all the options other than leather. I hate leather in a truck. I hate cars even more. I've only owned 1 car that was mine. That was a 2000 Mercury Sable. It was a nice car. Great on gas but I hate sitting that close to the road. Can't see anything and I felt like I was driving a go cart.

I like full size trucks and love my Dodge. It's my baby!!!:aok

Theres really nothing "subjective" about it. Watching two cars drag is about as obvious as getting shot at, or, getting a cold bucket of water thrown on your head. Where it gets complicated is when you have three lawyer pukes, counting the judge, in a court, dancing around language and trying to decide whos day it is to preen more.

" vying for position, or performing one or more lane changes in an attempt to gain advantage"

i've seen a couple old men in a camry doing exactly this with a couple punks on sport bikes over a 40 km stretch of highway...

Great story.    :aok

I never figured out why people put "glass packs" on trucks.  Ok, it's louder.... it's still slow.

I mean, I know the custom graphics add another 25 HP or so but still.... it's just a riced out truck, really.

No doubt your truck is a sturdy, comfortable, pulling brute.... why pose as something else?:

My trucks not "riced" out. "Hicked" out maybe but that's what I was going for. As for the glass packs, well it makes it sound like a truck is supposed to sound.
