it is only 3-DOF.  Not the 6 Axis as the trackIR 4 is.  Maybe sometime a firmware update might allow this? I dunno enough about how it actually WORKS to be able to tell you, but even with only 3DOF, i still love it.

AH is NOT DIRECTLY supportyed, however, there is a program that was written that emulates a track-IR... so THAT works, you tell AH its a track-ir, AH thinks it is, it works.  I use it ever time i fly.  All you have to do is use 1:1 scaling in the software.  AH doesnt care what device it really is, it only cares that it is being READ as a track-ir.

Yeah my z800 uses either native (not much support, vr920 has way better native support), joystick axis emulation (works with AH) or trackir emulation (works with AH). There are stereo 3d drivers out for the 8xxx series, check mtbs3d.com

Current crop of games I play on my headset with tracking/3d are:
 - AH
 - FS X
 - Wings over Vietnam
 - Armed Assault
 - Enemy Engaged 2
 - LOMAC

Plus theres a few space/driving sims (not into those as much). Also did WW2OL. I use the rocker on my X45 to lean left/right to give me a bit of extra scope when looking around, and one of the rotories for zoom.

Some of you thought this was cool but expensive.

Well I just thought I'd update things on another product called the VR920 ( http://www.icuiti.com/products/vr920.html ) which is a similar product (stereo headset plus 3 axis head tracking) for US$399 .

Someone has written trackir emulation for it so it should work fine with Aces High (perhaps even better than my Z800).  Info on that here : http://www.vr920.com/

Stereo 3D and VR adds a lot to AH, so if your a complete immersion freak like me, it might be worth a go :)

(no I don't own a vr920).

The vr920 sounds both good and bad. Good VR and not the best resolution. I wish there was a place to try them out though.

I sometimes run my old Elsa Revelator shutter glasses with a TrackIR4 6 degree of freedom setup with Aces. I find that aircraft name tags (since they're not 3d models) end up appearing in 2d, flat against my CRT monitor glass. So, I end up having to constantly shift to "no name" mode.  But, the 3d effect really does add a lot to the game.

The new crop of Samsung DLP HDTV's are advertised as having the ability to run 3d effects with shutter glasses. I'm not sure just how compatible the Samsung's would be with the old Elsa shutter glasses though. The Samsung glasses do look pretty similar to the Elsas. Plus, they all seem to run with the nVidia stereo drivers. Running a 60 inch DLP HDTV or DLP projector, with shutter glasses and a head trackIR, might be quite the experience. If you sit 3-4 feet away from a 60 inch DLP screen running at 1365x768 pixels with a TrackIR, one might end up smacking their head against the DLP glass, when they try to peer out over the front of a cockpit canopy in Aces.

Has anyone else checked up on the Samsung DLP HDTV's for 3D? It would be a bit more expensive than the VR920 glasses though.

When running the VR920's in Aces, how do the aircraft name tags and gunsights look? Are they a bit messed up or do they look ok?

Depends on your vision, this would indicate you have dominant eye and your centre vision is not 3D.

Now the real question is... to me at least... how do these work with glasses on?

It wouldn't be a big deal to me since I can see up close, but what if you have bad up close vision?  (I keep forgetting which ones which, I think I'm... nearsighted, I don't really remember.)

Only with regards to stereo 3d for my one. They'll work with any VGA card, but nvidia has good stereo 3d support.

Not bad, but he gets quite a bit wrong....

Like the stereo 3d support, there were drivers out for the 8xxx cards before that review via mtbs3d.com. The 7xxx cards do stereo 3d really well, and the drivers have been fairly up to date. I use AH, FS X, LOMAC, Wings over Vietname, and Enenmy Engaged in Stereo 3D.  All of these games worked 'out of the box' in stereo 3d. I haven't got Arma going yet, I believe it needs some tweaks. I did try Oblivion in 3D, and OMG it looks pretty, it needs one tweak otherwise you get purple seas :)

The other bit he missed was the trackir emulation, this opens up even more games and makes head tracking support really really easy. If he'd checked the vr920 forums he'd have found this out quickly.

BTW, I'm not affilliated with the vr920 guys in any way, and actually own a different brand/model of headset. I just think it is cool technology and like to correct in inaccuracies people come across :)

I think the biggest problem with VR is people who suffer motion sickness, you won't like VR, which probably reflects how immersive it can be.

Some vr headsets allow focal adjustmnet, but not the low end ones like these. Basically you need to wear your glasses when using them, and from what I've heard its not as comfortable/easy to focus that way. The advice I've seen all seems to boil down to 'use contacts' to be honest.
