Granted I'm no lawyer but I'm sure somewhere there is a statute which prohibits making money from an illegal activity. This is probably geared more towards a criminal writing a book about his nefarious deeds, but wouldnt it apply to someone washing dishes while engaged in criminal activity (ie illegal immigrant)?
Just a random thought.
Time for math class.
52 weeks in a year x 40 workhours in a week = 2080
2080 x 5.50 = 11,440 in yearly wages
11,440 x 11 years = 125,840
125,840 - 59,000 = 66840
66840/11 = 6076
So he had $6000 to spend each year, roughly not counting any overtime, which I'm sure he had.
I'm going to call shennanagins. There is no way in the world that anyone can live (food, rent, clothes, electricity, etc, etc) on $6000 a year without either feeding at the trough that is our entitlement mentality gone astray, public welfare, or engaging in some additionial illegal activity.
11 years and doesn't speak english .... riiiiight. I work with guys that have been here for a few months and I've already taught them some basic english.
What would happen if a CITIZEN tried to get away with not claiming income? The IRS would be on him like white on rice.
Of all the things in this article this infuriates me the most:
"Zapeta said his goal in coming to the United States was to make enough money to buy land in his mountain village and build a home for his mother and sisters. He sent no money back to Guatemala over the years, he said, and planned to bring it all home at once."
What, our money is good enough for you but living in and contributing to the the country that essentialy GAVE you that money is too much to ask? I give a rats bellybutton about his altruistic intentions, which are probably phoney BS "feel sorry for me please" excuses.
I have absolutely no sympathy for worthless pieces of crap like this. If this country isnt good enough for you to stay in, LEGALLY, then stay the hell out. I'll buy him a one way ticket to whatever third world crap hole he came from and escort him to the plane if thats what it takes to get rid of a piece of garbage like this.
Further, what about all the employers? I thought it was a requirement that all employees fill out an I-9 and a W-4 form when they are hired? So not only is this piece of pondscum breaking our laws, so are the crooks who hired him. Where is the outrage about that???
Ok, I'm done.
