"The Orange County Register reports that a 19 year old from Washington state broke into the Orange County California 911 emergency system. He randomly selected the name and address of a Lake Forest, California couple and electronically transferred false information into the 911 system. The Orange County California Sheriff's Department's Special Weapons and Tactics Team was immediately sent to the home of a couple with two sleeping toddlers. The SWAT team handcuffed the husband and wife before deciding it was a prank. Says the article, 'Other law enforcement agencies have seen similar breaches into their 911 systems as part of a trend picked up by computer hackers in the nation called "SWATting"'".

Before you start criticising the response you ought to read the entire article. It was a bit more serious than the blurb posted.

This kid might also face Federal charges since it went across state lines and involved interstate communication.

This isn't anything like a harmless prank, this was a serious situation he created. Total hugahunk for doing something like this.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

a prank like that can get someone killed, an considering the home owners response when SWAT showed up it could have happened... this kid needs to be slapped around and then put under the jail for a couple of years...

Yeah, I have tendencies to grab the ole shotgun when I here vehicles in the middle of the night.  I live on a road with 2 houses, mine and the neighbors.  They are always in by night fall, if I'm home and the wife is home, there should be no vehicles coming up or down the road.  And the hosue is a good 100 yds from the road, so I'll have a little bit of warning if they pull into my driveway.

I agree with the "slapping" part, and before you decide to flame me for not agreeing with the prison part please read on.

Most prisons today including the ones we have here in America are simply an isolated village where the inmates get to Exercise, eat (in abundance on our tax dollars), socialize with other inmates frequently, watch TV, have AC and heating.

That's not really punishment. What should be done is to make a prison a working place which in term makes the inmates never want to return to the dreaded place again.

The inmates would have to work for the food they want to eat, this means they plant foods they want to eat and work for any meats they want to receive. Also electricity rights to inmates would be stripped which makes Prison Life more depressing.

Just that small combination would go a long way in straightening someone up and making them realize, "Jail is not the place to be!"
