I'm sorry guys, I'm on the road so I'm not home. This Monaco is not mine, I posted this picture so people know what a 72 Monaco looks like.
Mine has the same color/top combo, but a 4 door. The paint is faded, but the no major rust spots, and only a dent or 2. The body is straight. The chromes are not pitted. The interrior smells like dead body, the apolstry has the usuall tear on the driver seat. The dash is all cracked by the sun.
Being a Monaco, car is fully loaded with AC/power windows/power seats/cruise control/engine pre-heater. Available for that year was the 318, 360, 383 2bb, 383 4bb, 440. This car has a 360 engine, 2 barel carb, 727 trany. I like it for the little 360 as it will be my daily driver, our road trip car. I drove it from Sun Valley to Salt Lake City, 300 miles @ 70 MPH on 3/4 tank. The thing runs on 85 octane. The trany does not shift into reverse, the engine is covered in grease, and the suspensions are inexistent. Brakes are awsome.
I'll get the trany rebuilt locally or by a new one from YearOne for $600, depending on local rebuilding costs. The I'll take the 360 out and rebuild it to what it is now, no perf parts so I keep the cost way down as well as the fuel consumption. While the engine is out I'll repaint the engine compartment, front suspension.
That will give me a fun daily driver for $3,000. I'll resell my 2005 Taurus with 25,000 miles to get out of my ridiculous 25% APR.
After the sale, I'll change bushings/shocks/springs, then as time permit body/paint. Finally as money permits, fix AC and get someone to recover the seats, maybe recover the dash if I canot find a new one.
That's the evil master plan, a big old school reliable familly car of little value for airport parking and familly road trips, and the firebird for weekend goofing around/races.
Thank you for those links. I've spent the last 2 days online looking. My best bet is to keep screening Ebay daily. I'll post pictures of the parts I'm looking for. From the top of my head, a dash, the Heater/AC controler and new tail lights like those ones:
